| The new season is upon us! We were planning on beginning fall training 2 weeks ago, however the weather has been against us (that and a NASTY flu bug!). However, the rain seems to be slacking off, so training is finally ready to commence! The dogs have been feeling great and are ready to go. We started them back on meat just this past week, so they are definitely feeling good. We've made a couple of new additions to our kennel this year, which we hope will aid us in the years to come. This past summer we acquired 3 new pups from a kennel in Salcha. These guys have incredible bloodlines (Reynolds/Raitto/Ellis/Streeper) and look very promising. We have 2 males and 1 female who we've named Remus, Rhomulus and Minerva. These pups are currently 6 months old and will start running in a puppy team, that I will enter in the 6-dog classes this year just to get them some experience. Beano, my old, trusty leader will be teaching these younguns the ropes, and will ensure to keep them slow during their first season in harness (right, Beano?!). With the advice of my good friend and excellent sprint musher, Dori Hollingsworth, we'll be entering some sprinting this year and give that genre a go. Graduate school and student teaching has me extremely busy and full time employment does the same for Manny. So, to stay in the racing mindset, Manny wants to enter the 8-10 dog classes for sprinting this year, to see how the dogs do and find out if he will like sprinting. The following year, he will set his sights on some stage racing, and begin working towards our goals in that area of the sled dog world. We've completed some work in the dogyard this summer, which will make life a little more comfortable during all the rain and then the season of breakup. Manny has put layers of pitrun in each dog circle, as well as the dog pens, making for better drainage with less mud. Thanks to the efforts of Miriam, we have replaced a couple of older doghouses with well-built, brand-spanking new houses (thanks again, Miriam! They look great!). Next year, we hope to get the yard fenced off and leveled, which is the next major project on our list. I hope to keep up with this site fairly regularly, but please bear with us as we'll be extremely pressed for time this season. Take care and keep on running!! Hope to have you checking back regularly! Tammi |
