Running Swift Kennel Sled Dogs
November 20, 2003
We've been off and on our training thanks to the freezing rain Mother Nature bestowed here in the Fairbanks area. However, we did get a few inches of snow over the last 2 weeks, which has improved the trails dramatically.  The dogs were at 10 miles before the rain and ice halted training for 2 weeks. Then frozen atv (from temps of -22 degrees F) lost another day or two..but we are finally back on track. The dogs are looking really good and my school schedule allows me to train in the mornings before I have to appear for student teaching.  I completed a couple of training runs this week that had some good and some bad points, but hey, when isn't mushing an adventure??

We are proud to announce 3 new additions to our kennel: Clifford, Jordan and Mini-me.  These three pointer crosses join us from Don & Janet McQuown's Aurora Farm (check out their website...the link is on our main page).  I've had the opportunity to run all three dogs, and they are just incredible working dogs.  I really look forward to implementing these new additions into our racing team in the months ahead. You can view pictures of these wonderful dogs on our Kennel Lineup 2 page.

The Two River's Tuneup was to be our first race for the season; however, it has been postponed until December 6th due to lack of adequate snow on the trails.  Let's hope Mother Nature decides to bless us with more of the fluffy, white stuff in the next two weeks so this race can be put on.

I will try to add more journals in the next weeks, but please bear in mind that we are extremely busy with training, school, work and life in general! Take care and Happy trails!
