Doing the US's Dirty Work: The Colombian Paramilitaries and Israel Galil: The Israeli Presence in Latin America
In Colombia you see the black assault rifles everywhere. Both the US-backed Army and the National Police use them. These are not, as you might imagine, US M16s, but they are the famous Israeli Galil assault rifle, an imitation of the Russian Kalashnikov series but marketed in Latin America using the smaller, but faster (and messier) .223 round � the same as the M16. The Galil has been manufactured by the Israeli Military Industries since 1972 and has been a considerable success. But the Israelis themselves do not use many Galils in their own operations inside (and outside) Israel, because they get M16s free from the US.
But in Latin America, the Galil is the main weapon of both the Guatemalan and Colombian governments. In the Guatemalan case, the US did not wish to be seen overtly supplying the Guatemalan military as it conducted countless massacres in the countryside during the 1980s. So Israel stepped in and not only supplied the weapons, but also built a munitions factory in Coban, a mountainous, but relatively unconflicted region of the country. While the Israelis made out well on the deal, it was not so sweet for the Guatemalans: the factory was most of the time immersed in humid clouds, and the resulting ammunition was often damp, producing misfires.
But in Colombia, Israeli Military Industries didn�t merely set up a munitions factory to make bullets; they set up an entire Galil assault rifle factory in Bogot�. Of the Colombian version of the weapon, only the barrel is imported from Israel. Who pays for this? Colombia? Think again. The Isreali assault rifles are paid for through US military aid to both Israel and Colombia. As such, it is yet another way the unwitting US taxpayer is underwriting the Colombian bloodletting.

6 October 03: When at a loss, escalate
Unable to repress the Palestinian struggle for liberation, Israel is now trying to transform it into a regional war, for which its army is better equipped. That spells more disaster for the whole Middle East, including Israel.

By attacking Syria, Israel's junta is hoping at the least to frighten the world, including the U.S. and Europe, and "punish" it for daring to impose limits on its use of force. The message is that Israel will react to international pressure by causing greater instability throughout the Middle East. In considering this strategy of blackmail and its ramifications, one should remember that Israel is a nuclear power that has already used threats of nuclear war to blackmail the U.S. (in 1973, as the New York Times, by "happy" coincidence, has just confirmed (see here). A second "benefit" of the attack is that it can potentially push forward the confrontation between the U.S. and Syria, and possibly Iran. The war in Iraq has raised new hopes for getting the U.S. embroiled in war in Syria and Iran. While the U.S. is acting toward these countries with belligerence for reasons of its own, Israel is impatient. From Israel's perspective, the U.S. needs prodding to act sooner rather than later.

The flame of hope offered by the road map may have been snuffed out before the document ever saw the light of day. In defending his government's halfhearted endorsement of the plan, though, Sharon may have given his country the one gift that no one ever expected of him: a chance to finally know peace by accepting at last the people with whom, sooner or later, it will have to be made.
Playing chess with the Angel of Destruction
The American media is prematurely ejaculating its joy over Sharon's use of the word "occupation." This is much ado about nothing, except, of course, as another example of the willingness of the U.S. media to mislead the public in Israel's interest. To understand Sharon, one must check a Ziospeak dictionary. There, one discovers that "occupation" means only rule over the wrong people, not over the wrong territories. In Ziospeak, territories are always inherently empty. Sharon's supposed earth-shattering change of heart was nothing more than the restatement of his desire to solve the Palestinian problem by getting rid of Palestinians, while keeping as much as their land as possible. In Sharon's own words: Israel's problem is how to avoid responsibility for "1.8 million Palestinians fed by international organizations." Sharon's Israel isn't looking for co-existence; it is looking for a large enough dumpster.
29 May 03: Sharon has not changed his plans
Sharon is now being portrayed as the best hope for peace, after he narrowly secured a cabinet vote conditionally endorsing the so-called �Road Map� for peace being advanced by the Bush administration in the United States along with the European Union, the United Nations and Russia (the �quartet�).

But Sharon outlined fully 14 reservations about the plan that Israel has presented to the Bush administration as constituting a �red line� that will be binding on future Israeli governments. The US, he said, has promised to �fully and seriously� address these concerns which are not negotiable.

Since then the scope of the 14 points has become clear after being leaked to the media. They amount to a demand that the Palestinians unconditionally surrender to what could only be seen as a victorious Israeli state.

As part of his brief for war against Iraq, George W. Bush made pointed reference in last week�s State of the Union address to Saddam Hussein�s use of torture against his political opponents. There is no reason to doubt that the Iraqi regime employs such methods. However, Bush�s pose of moral revulsion, as with everything else in his speech, was laced with hypocrisy and cynicism.
Only days before Bush�s speech, the British Guardian newspaper detailed new accounts of United States sanction of torture and illegal interrogation of prisoners held in the wake of the September 11 terror attacks.

The United States Senate�s �stealth vote� giving final approval to the $87.5 billion emergency appropriation bill for the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan�with only six senators present, and by voice vote rather than roll call�provides an object lesson in the degenerate state of the US political system.
The final measure enacted into law was approved only after being stripped of measures aimed at curtailing profiteering by politically connected corporations. Such firms, including Halliburton and Bechtel, have already reaped windfall profits off taxpayer money used to finance the Iraqi occupation.

November 13, 2000: According to the Financial Times of London, between September 1998 and last winter, Cheney, as CEO of Halliburton, oversaw $23.8 million of business contracts for the sale of oil-industry equipment and services to Iraq through two of its subsidiaries, Dresser Rand and Ingersoll-Dresser Pump, which helped rebuild Iraq's war-damaged petroleum-production infrastructure. The combined value of these contracts exceeded those of any other U.S. company doing business with Baghdad.
Halliburton was among more than a dozen American firms that supplied Iraq's petroleum industry with spare parts and retooled its oil rigs when U.N. sanctions were eased in 1998. The Ervin Senate Select Committee first investigating Watergate, the Rockefeller Commission headed by the US Vice-President to investigate the CIA�s illegal domestic activities, the Senate Committee chaired by Senator Frank Church and the House Committee chaired by Congressman Otis Pike both investigating general illegal activities by the US intelligence community, heard testimony from serving and former Directors, Deputy Directors and agents of the CIA, FBI and other government agencies, subpoenaed documents and White House officials, and offered limited immunity from prosecution for informers in return for evidence delivered under oath.
One of the most damning documents was the secret internal report ordered by newly-appointed CIA Director James Schlesinger in May 1973, ordering all Agency employees to inform him of inappropriate or illegal Agency activities past or present. To his horror the data he received as a result, nicknamed by the Agency the "family jewels", consisted of 693 pages of illegal actions: domestic espionage in gross violation of the Agency�s 1947 congressional charter forbidding the Agency from wielding "police, subpoena, law enforcement powers or internal security functions", including warrantless wiretaps and illegal mail interception on a vast scale; the training of foreign insurgency groups; assassination plots and assassination squads and the possible murder of foreign officials. Schlesinger remained Director for only five months; his successor, the late William E. Colby, used the report to brief President Ford. Although the Schlesinger Report was never publicly released, parts of it were leaked to the New York Times and CBS News. Taken together with other evidence gathered by the committees of inquiry, a diorama is revealed of executive-approved espionage, blackmail, burglary, political persecution, manufacture of false and incriminating documents against political enemies, kidnapping, illegal possession of lethal or incapacitating drugs, monetary corruption, the running of secret armies abroad and links with organised crime at home.

All of them accepted uncritically the framework of the Bush administration�s so-called �war on terrorism,� and either tacitly or explicitly endorsed the strengthening of the police powers of the state at the expense of individual rights.

Not much chance (the media is totally under control and the secret police are extremely powerful - not to mention the concentration camps built just for the purpose of putting away revolutionaries, i.e., "terrorists"), but nice idea!!!
What has to come about, first, is a rise in the consciousness level of, at least, a small percentage of the American people regarding "what is going on." Then, they have to have the desire and the guts to try to change things - and that is the most difficult part. They have to swing the unconscious masses.
The only way the middle and working classes will start rebelling is if they start losing their property, their jobs, or go hungry. Otherwise, they will silently, and sometimes violently, support whatever the government does; & believe everything they say (via the media). The ones in power know that.
The plan currently in motion by world government cronies seems to be to take away jobs, property, and to make sure that more and more people go hungry - meanwhile they create a terrorist threat from outside to keep the masses scared, while installing a police state, removing their civil rights, and convincing the masses that they are "protecting" them.
I do not believe in Communism as the answer, but a movement in the socialist direction while preserving our civil rights and the American Constitution in its entirety would provide a possible solution.
It would, therefore, seem to be possible to have a "peaceful" revolution by VOTING for a party (such as the Socialist Equality Party) - but, then, we all know how the vote count works in America...

In the most recent revelation, the New York Times disclosed a massive undercounting of dropouts in New York City. While the Department of Education reported 12,885 dropouts in the class of 2002, or 20 percent of the class total, an additional 14,891 students were categorized as �discharged� to other cities or to adult programs. Most of these discharged students are in fact believed to have been forced out, which would make the true drop-out rate 25 to 30 percent. Including these �pushouts,� the actual graduation rate for those in the city who began 9th grade in the fall of 1998 would be 39 percent rather than the 51 percent reported.

Globally renowned experts in international law have been virtually unanimous in their assessment of the American-British attack on Iraq as an act of armed aggression that violates international law. Fallujah
On March 31, 2004 in Fallujah four heavily armed mercenaries (who happened to be US citizens indirectly hired by Dick Cheney's old company Halliburton) were killed and their burned bodies were dragged though the streets by angry Iraqis - mainly youths. As a result, the US decided to pay back the citizens of Fallujah...
The Lockheed AC-130 'Spectre' is America's most deadly punitive weapon system. At least five times in the last week, U.S. Marine commanders have summoned Spectres overhead Fallujah, where each has indiscriminately pumped more than 4,000 rounds of high explosive ammo per minute into the defenseless civilian population below. Vietnam's Mai Lai atrocity was a mere walk in the park by comparison with this international outrage, which has left between 600 and 1,100 unarmed civilians dead, and more than 2,500 seriously injured.
Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, on April 5, 2004 (listen to the action at NPR) ordered Marine Cobra helicopter gunships to attack the town center with cannon fire and rockets. Amazingly, his orders were instantly obeyed.
Every U.S. Marine commissioned and non-commissioned officer understands very clearly that targeting civilians is a war crime - period. There are no special exceptions to this rule, and absolutely no way any Marine can avoid the hangman's noose if later charged and convicted. Those who smirk and claim these are not war crimes because war was never declared, are of course entitled to be hung as common murderers instead. Either way you look at it, when Marine Cobra gunships started the mass murder by opening fire on Fallujah city center, more than two hundred years of U.S. Marine Corps honor vanished instantly. In less than a minute, the once-proud American Marine Corps was transformed into the same despicable trash as Pol Pot's butchers in Cambodia.
After a brief but intense period of indiscriminate killing, Kimmitt did his Joe Stalin megaphone trick again, inviting the women and children of Fallujah to flee the town but leave their men behind. Once again they refused, leaving Kimmitt 'no other choice' but to summon giant Lockheed AC-130 Spectre gunships, which he glibly told the assembled media throng would use "pinpoint precision to kill enemy insurgents". Believe me people, a Spectre does not even understand the words pinpoint or precision, and this is why.
In simple terms Spectre is a lopsided airborne battleship, with cannon of various calibers poking out of its left-hand side. When the captain of the Spectre receives target coordinates, he flies the aircraft slightly offset to the right of the designated target, banks [leans] the Spectre to the left and hauls the cumbersome aircraft into a tightly banked left-hand spiral turn, while opening fire on the target with all of those cannon, in a withering old-fashioned broadside reminiscent of the Battle of Trafalgar.
Even if only two of its four available high-cyclic cannon are selected, Spectre is guaranteed to punch a high explosive shell into the ground every two square feet, decimating an area the same size as a football field with less than twenty seconds of continuous fire. Pinpoint precision plays no part at all in this process, which is designed to kill everyone and everything within the broad target zone. When a single AC-130 Spectre fires a broadside, it makes an entire squadron of German Stuka dive-bombers look like kiddy toys by comparison.
Before he was eventually stopped, Kimmitt had summoned a minimum of five Spectres, all of which took turns to fire indiscriminately on the city center. Depending on where you get your information, these punitive strikes on an unarmed population killed between 600 and 1,100 civilians, while seriously injuring more than 2,500 others. Because the ersatz 'Coalition Authority' in Baghdad has already admitted 600 dead in Fallujah, it seems more than likely that Arab media estimates of 1,000+ murdered will eventually be proved correct. The sheer numbing magnitude of this American war crime, makes Vietnam's Mai Lai look like a mere walk in the park.

If the esteemed president and vice president of the United States are so concerned about weapons of mass destruction, why on earth do they keep selling them to murderous rulers of the impoverished and disenfranchised Third World? If the US so concerned about weapons of mass destruction, why does it keep selling them to the only nuclear power in the Middle East: Israel?

After the American onslaught on Afghanistan, we said in these columns: You can't stop a military machine that has achieved such a quick and complete victory with so few losses. It will push for action again and again.

Sometimes, the entire character of a person is encapsulated in one single word of theirs. This happened last week to Donald Rumsfeld.
The world saw the terrible pictures of what's happening in Baghdad under the eyes of the occupation forces. Baghdad was ransacked as in the days of the Mongols. The mob did not plunder only the government buildings, without which no modern society can function, but also hospitals and museums. The wounded and the sick were left without life-saving equipment and medicines. Priceless cultural treasures from the cradle of human civilization were destroyed or plundered one of the worst cultural disasters in the history of mankind.
The absolute responsibility for this outrage, which has been going on for more than a week, day after day, falls on the occupier. That is what international law says, in agreement with common sense. It shows the total indifference of the planners of the war for the population they were about to "liberate". No provisions had been made to protect them from the anarchy that is to be expected when any regime collapses, no preparations for safeguarding vital public buildings and cultural treasures. A city of many millions was turned over to the mob.
When Rumsfeld was asked about it, the man who is responsible for this catastrophe declared dismissively: "When a regime falls, there is always some untidiness."

It's going wrong, faster than anyone could have imagined. The army of "liberation" has already turned into the army of occupation. The Shias are threatening to fight the Americans, to create their own war of "liberation".

Arab states and people alike have lost self-respect and the world has lost respect for them.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, it is clear that the US administration has had, for some time, a clear road map for a major campaign against Arab states in the region. While the first signs of this were apparent before Sept. 11, 2001, the political ingredients needed for it to be acted upon multiplied after that.
The aim is to topple a number of regimes in the region and change the policies and attitudes of some of the others. This campaign is being made possible both by the enormous clout of the US on the international stage and the debilitating cancer that is spreading through the Arab world.
The main goals of this policy are to boost US influence in the Middle East and to change the regimes in the region. The aim of this change is not to bring them into the US orbit - they are already there; rather, the goal is to change their nature, structure, laws, and political, economic and social cultures to make them conform to the demands of the US neoconservatives.

Another Test for Qaddafi: Who Infected the Children?
In 1997-98 400 children in Benghazi are suspiciously contaminated with H.I.V., the human immunodeficiency virus.
"This is something terrible, a catastrophe, an odious crime," Colonel Qaddafi said. "We have found a doctor and a group of nurses who possessed the H.I.V. virus and who were asked to experiment" on the "effect of viruses of this type, AIDS, on the children in question."
Qaddafi, however is in a dilemma:
A European ambassador who has been working to free seven medical workers, six Bulgarians and a Palestinian, who were arrested in 1999 claims, "This is a test case for us, and we are at a crucial moment." Evidently, European governments would like to see the medical workers set free while Libya's Health Ministry takes the blame.
But the Libyans said the seven took part in a conspiracy by the Central Intelligence Agency and Mossad, Israel's spy agency, to spread H.I.V. to Libya and undermine the state.
Thus, Colonel Qaddafi can either investigate the case further, or give into Western pressure (and investors) by letting the suspects free and claiming the 400 HIV contaminated children "was caused by gross negligence by Libya's Health Ministry."

I suppose you have to go back and see who was responsible for this diabolical plan within WHO to create a virus that would destroy the human immune system. They found out that once it was released that it mutated like crazy and there is no way to produce a vaccine for it.
