At the age of 15 Abdul Rahmen Dakri moved from Dedza, Malawi to Ilford, England to work and start a life there. He worked in 2 companies over a span of 6 years before starting up a Textile company with his family. Not long after starting up the company, Mr Dakri’s marriage was then arranged by his family to Mehrunessa. After the wedding, Mr and Mrs Dakri, flew back to Ilford where they raised 3 children and now have 12 grandchildren.
The inspiration for Rumah Aman came about almost 35 years ago. Mr Dakri saw a documentary about an English woman, who worked as a flight attended, and had given up everything she had in England to help the poor in a small town in Bangladesh. He thought to himself, “wherever I retire I must do that, but I will do it better.”
He never let go of this idea, and even started a charity in England, before Rumah Aman Malaysia was born. Initially planning to open his charity in Cambodia, his plans were affected by the war that had befallen the region at the time. Many things happened, and Mr and Mrs Dakri decided to come to Malaysia for 3 months. They looked at many properties and decided that a location in Seksyen 2 of Shah Alam was the best place. After some adventurous circumstances, Rumah Aman (Shah Alam) was born in March of 2006.
A few years later, a kind individual donated a plot of land to Mr and Mrs Dakri in Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh. It took some doing, and some more adventures, however construction started in 2010 and Rumah Aman 2 was officially opened in January of 2014.
Mr and Mrs Dakri aim to find more individuals who are looking to commit and contribute to their community, and carry on the legacy of Rumah Aman. As for the future of the children, they feel they have done their best in setting up a wonderful foundation and home for the children of Rumah Aman, with the best facilities. From here on out the focus will be on, giving the children a chance in life by providing them the best education for deen duniya and akhirat.
Do not discount anyone in life, there is always someone better than you and always someone worse than you. But, if you focus on the worst you’ll forget the good.
