FAQ)

The wise-looking princess and third in the pecking order.  She is a know-it-all who will not tolerate failure and has invented many devices used by the Aristocracy, including the dreaded Onion Bag.  Never seen without her beloved notebook, she has a close, sisterly relationship with Susan and is teaching her how to read.  She also strongly hates Eleanor, whom she finds too cold for her to ever like.

Meg loves and looks up to Diana almost obsessively, though the older girl clearly seems to detest her.  In her notebook, she would often write poems and love letters for Diana, which eventually prompted Diana to tear up the letter and rip many other pages out as well.  Though Meg knew she had done this and was even teased that one of the goats must have eaten it, she blames Jennifer and cries in Diana's arms.

In July, she broke Eleanor's toy bird and hid it with Diana's help, wrapped up in her dress.  They bet on how she would react, with Meg thinking she'd be sad.
In August, the Gift of the Month was an Unmarried Mermaid.  To make one, Eleanor and Meg-who were possibly out to get revenge for things Diana had done to them-took Mr. Hoffman's beloved koi, chopped it in half, and attached the bottom to the top half of a stuffed toy.  When Hoffman discovered that the fish was missing, he believed Diana did it, and she got in trouble.  The cruel acts that Diana and Meg each put the other through suggest that though they once did care for eachother, conflict eventually turned all their love into hatred.
In December, Meg follows the other orphans outside to tease Wendy and is puzzled by the dog-like Gregory who is with her.  While wondering who he is, she's killed by him-quite possibly the first of the kids to be murdered.  When Jennifer later reflects on her, she comments that Meg was bound by the chains of foolish devotion.
