| Who is the real Countess? |
In the game, the number one position of the Red Crayon Aristocrats after the Rose Princess is Duchess, followed by Countess, and then by Baroness. While it is made clear that Diana holds the rank of Duchess, the role of Countess could belong to either Meg or Eleanor, leaving one to be third in the pecking order as Baroness. It is stated in the game booklet and on the official site that Meg is the Countess and Eleanor is the Baroness, but there is evidence in the game that the opposite could very well be true. |

| First, there are their positions on the attic "altar". Diana and Eleanor are shown at the same height, with Meg below them and Amanda, Olivia, and Susan at the bottom. This would suggest Eleanor is closer in rank to Diana than Meg is. Also note that Eleanor appears to be older than Meg and arguably has the stronger personality of the two, which would make her a more likely candidate for the number two position. While some argue Meg holds the number two rank because she is often seen with or beside Diana, that could be attributed to the fact that Meg loved and looked up to her. |

| Another piece of evidence suggesting that Eleanor is the Countess, is the storybook "The Little Princess". The Countess is drawn holding a birdcage-Eleanor always has a birdcage with her,- and the Baroness is drawn with glasses-Meg wears glasses. |

| Probably the most convincing proof that it is Eleanor who is the Countess, is the rank poster shown in the game that labels her as such. It also lists Meg's rank as Baroness. This poster is not only examinable through the entire game, but it is also shown in an FMV as well, making it seem unlikely that it was just a typo or mixup. With the above facts, the majority of Rule or Rose players have accepted Eleanor as the Countess, but there is still no truly official answer and most likely, never will be. |
