GENETICS
The Magickal gene can be co-dominate with the regular human gene.  This means that if some one were to get one regular gene from one parent and the magickal gene from the other, they could be half magickal half human.  However, if one is to recieve both the same gene they would be homozygous, making them a full blooded creature.  If a creature is heterozygous, meaning they have one of each gene, they have a chance of producing any type of offspring.  A homozygous human, a homozygous creature (vampire, elvin, etc...), or a heterozygous half being.  Some half beings can hide their identity, while others can't.  It all depends upon what genes they recieve for what features (a halfling vampire who recieved the genes for fangs would have a more difficult time hiding their identity than one who recieved the genes for flight).  If two homozygous creatures of different species (non human) were to mate they would create a new creature with a new set of genes.

The Magickal gene arrived shortly after the Breaking when some people who had survived it began to develope strange characteristics.  However, the memory of those days before the magickal gene are lost to all since the Breaking.  Now all of these creatures co-exsist not knowing that there was once a world without them.
