Although I really wish the extremely talented Mr. Wainwright would come out with a second album, his first one still maintains its charm and power, at least for this fan. Influenced by such artists as The Beatles, Edith Piaf, Cole Porter, The Eurythmics and, of course, opera, Rufus braves territory largely unexplored by his peers. His moods run the gamut, capturing tenderness, whimsy, yearning and despair in songs that tell stories of family, lovers and moviestars. Mr. Wainwright's voice is at once drowsy and yearning.
This page is my modest tribute to one of my favorite artists.
If you have the Beatnik Player installed, you can simply pass your mouse over any Rufus image and you will hear a short clip of the song named below it.
(If you don't hear sound and have the player, try reloading; it's probably just Geocities hiccuping.)
