The Rantdown

I had a friend who won a wrestling trivia contest on a website who's name I can't remember (sorry) so a few new visitors may show up and to them I say welcome. Now with some stuff.

Fox News Sunday

Fox News catches three huge semi sized loads of manure ridden dirt for being Republican party shills, much of it deserved. However I find Fox News Sunday to be informative and entertaining. This Sunday's episode was particularly good and demonstrated a higher level of discourse that can serve our society well. The primary guests were discussing the issue concerning the detainees at Guantonomo Bay (sp?). They were Tom Malinowski (Washington Director of Human Rights Watch) and Duncan Hunter (Republican Congressman from California). Their positions were all too predictable as Hunter rambled about the great food on the detainees menu and the accomidations they make for the Islamic religion (sounding the call to prayer five times for example). Malinowski expressed concern for the treatment of the detainees and the lack of due process. But Malinowski was also quick to say that Gitmo was not a concentration camp. Hunter expressed his talking points but did not get angry at Malinowski. When finished, Hunter touched Malinowski on the forearm in a friendly gesture. Two differing opinions expressed plainly but without the hyperbole, anger and disrespect usually seen in today's political discourse (especially on Fox News). You can disagree with someone without being a jerk and these two men displayed that. It was also nice to see host Chris Wallace treat historian David McCollough (the second guest) with the respect our scholars deserve as keepers of the knowledge. Wallace seemed genuinely honored to have McColllough on the show and I enjoyed McCollough's insights (as did Wallace) and bought the book he was discussing (promoting?) "1776".

Michael Jackson followup

Not guilty. Well I don't like the guy but it was the right decision. I think he interacts with young boys inappropriately but not sexually or maliciously. He gets way too close and interacts with them at their age level. Ungood but not criminal. Jackson seemed worried about the possibility of prison (who wouldn't?) so maybe the only children he will develop close (non sexual) relationships with henceforth will be his own. One can only hope. For his sake and the young boys he would have been interacting with.

I suppose that is all. Hopefully a new update will come soon.

Well I guess DSL hasn't prompted me to update the site more. School's out and I have two months to just relax (mostly). My goal is to post an article on the Best rock CDs of 2004 sometime this week. In related news I plan to drop Rufas Rocks Radio in July when it would have been time to renew. I've always wanted my own radio station but now it's been there done that. I have upgraded the stream quality so it should be a better listen while its still there. I wish I could find a way to stream about 10 songs a week as a type of Rufas Rocks show. Then I could introduce people to music they haven't heard without having a repetitive playlist. I also don't want to have to pay for it.

Michael Jackson

Has the world gone crazy? Why are people demonstrating in the streets claiming Michael Jackson is innocent? He's admitted to sleeping with children (but not engaging in any activities he claims) and held his baby on a balcony with a head cover. These are actions detrimental to a child's mental and emotional health regardless of whether hanky panky was present. This man is a freak and why anyone would want to demonstrate on his behalf is beyond me. I'm sorry but "Thriller" wasn't that good (albeit album and song and video were pop classics). If he was an eccentric CEO (same money and being well known but not an entertainment icon) under the same circumstances no one would give two shot glasses of kool-aid colored spit what happened to him. Don't misunderstand; I'm not saying the jury should find him guilty (it could go either way IMHO w/o much knowledge cause I don't care) but why people care about this vain (wanting so much plastic surgery), deformed (the poetic justice result of said surgery), freakish (leave the little boys alone sex or not), psycotic ("I like monkeys and little boys"), arrogant (wearing a breath mask so he doesn't have to breathe our air), foolish (see previous) excuse for a human being is beyond me.

Hope you found that interesting. Until next time.
