Fort Lewis, Washington
Marcus took me to his home of Fort Lewis, Washington (right outside Tacoma).  Military bases are definately different worlds!  I saw all sorts of cool things that Marcus witnesses every day, like the Chinooks taking off and flying around (top left), and rows of tank after tank just hanging out (bottom left).  You can hear weapons going off all the time in the distance, and it's completely normal.
Though the weapons and machines, etc, were quite impressive, the barracks were definately not.  To the right you see two views of Marcus' completely ghetto home.  They really suck.  You'd think the United States Army would house the soldiers a little better, but good thing they're working on it.  They are building some very nice new barracks.
Luckily, it was a rather nice day for our trip to the base.  Of course, it rains a lot around the Puget Sound, but this day was clear enough to see Mount Rainier in the distance.  Many days it is hidden behind thick clouds.  You know, I'm reading a book for my history class called If I Die in the Combat Zone, by Tim O'Brien, and he went to basic training at Fort Lewis.  I understand almost everything he talks about-- the movie theater, the PX, and of course, Mount Rainier-- "It stood for freedom."
