Faire 2003 Page 3
The cream line above the skirt that you see is the wiastband of the petticoat. I made it thinner, but extra wide to try to keep too many things from bulking up around my waist. You can see in the front where I left a part of the skirt flat, without pleats. I did learn with cartridge pleating that I needed to start and stop my thread for the pleats on either side of that area. Oh, well, you live and learn. It wouldn't be nearly as much fun if I knew everything already.
You can get an idea here of what the skirt will look like with a doublet on top. Granted, the doublet has tabs, but you are able to see how the pleating will look in the finished idea.

And here it is. A picture of the finished garment as seen at faire. Here, proudly displayed for all to see is the least favorite of all of my garb. In this instance, I discovered that no matter how it looked in period, making yourself into something the size of the Spanish Armada does not do anything for your self esteem. Granted, I still think its really cool in the "I made something look period" kind of way, but I did not feel like a pretty, pretty princess while wearing this let me tell you. And before everyone laughs at the hat, it had started to slide back on my head by the time this picture was taken, and had lost its rakish angle and just become silly, positively silly.
