| Two-generator solving is solving a cube that is scrambled and solved only with two adjacent sides of the cube, usually R and U. (Hypothetically, you could use opposite sides, but that could always be solved in two moves or less!) There are two basic steps to solving the cube with the two-generator: the F2L and the LL. | |||||||||||||||
| The F2L: The first step is to place the edge at RD. This is easy, and can always be done in at most two moves. Then you have to place the F2L pairs. If you know Fridrich F2L, this can often be used. Otherwise, find the two pieces that go in a slot in the F2L (the F2L are on the bottom) and try to put them together. Once you put them together (so that both stickers on the edge match up with the corresponding stickers on the corner) , put them at UFR and UR to get them to FDR/FR (or UBR/UR to get them to BDR/BR) and do U R U' R' (or U' R' U R, respectively) to place the pair. Alternatively, you can place the DFR corner and add the FR edge by putting it at UR and doing R U' R' U' R U' R' U R U R'. Then repeat for the other pair without disturbing the already-solved pair. This will solve the F2L. | |||||||||||||||
| The LL: First, you must orient the corners of the LL. You can use step 5 of my Beginner's Method to do this, with the exception that if you are instructed to turn the cube, you must only turn U the same way, because you are only allowed to turn two sides of the cube. Once you are done with that, all that is left is edge permutation (because edge orientation and corner permutation are automatically solved due to the nature of the two-generator). This is identical to step 7 of my Beginner's Method, again with the exception that you should turn U instead of the whole cube. This will solve the cube. | |||||||||||||||
