| CASTLE DREAMS T'was a time I lived in a castle but I was not the king's lady fair my life was not so elegant still, I was happy living there I was not a royal princess nor maiden sitting in a tower I had neither position nor standing I was no one of regal power A mere castle servant is what I was waiting on the royal needs but I was treated with great regard for years of servitude and deeds It was a happy time in my life as a certain knight, my heart did find although he never noticed me still, I did not really mind For I could dream of being with him forever by his side just to watch him in the courtyard upon his white steed, he did ride To look upon his noble face as charming, as any knight could be strong and brave donned in his armor as he often rode past me One day, while tending to my duties readying for a costume ball there was so much to prepare for when I heard a beckoning call Because I was the servant of course I rushed right to the sound and there I found this gallant knight with garments strewn upon the ground In frustration to dress for the ball he knew not where to start so with a silent giggle and a smile upon my heart... I gathered up his scattered clothes rearranging them just right showing him how they should be donned and then bid him a kind good night I was to the end of the darkened hall when I heard that same mournful voice calling out for me to return I was sure I had no choice I retraced my steps and asked m'Lord what it was he needed done replying he had no companion for the ball would I accompany him to this one Of course I was in no position for I was but a mere commoner and although the idea struck my fancy I would have no elegant gown to wear When I brought this to his attention he produced a gown of golden threads and lace and because it was a costume ball no one would recognize my face The offer was too good to resist how could I not comply this would be a dream of a lifetime that just could not be denied I held the gown up in my arms as it were a child, so frail and young returning, forthwith to my chamber dressing for the ball at once As I entered the castle's ballroom the gallant knight did catch my eye he asked me for the first dance but instead, we danced into the night Even though he knew just who I was I believe, all along this was his plan for now I am his Lady and this gallant knight is now my man ~PennyLynne~ |
