GARDEN FAIRY

Romping through the garden
feeling the breeze so warm and airy
chasing all the butterflies
and then she spots a fairy

~At least she thinks it is~

fluttering along the flower bed
down on her hands and knees
she moves in close to get a look
past the lady bugs and bees

~not sure exactly what she saw~

it couldn't be a butterfly
for their wings are much more bright
and it couldn't have been a moth
for they only come out at night

~Was she only dreaming?~

Once again she sees a flutter
and sure enough, behind a dewy rose
a wee, tiny fairy person
how it sets her eyes aglow

~watching with excitement~

she tried to be so quiet
not wanting to frighten the fairy away
wouldn't it be so magical
if they could be friends and play

~wondering how to approach her~

with a quiet and gentle whisper
she leans in to say hello
shyly, the timid little fairy
steps out from behind the rose

~her heart is full of wonder~

she runs around the garden
the fairy fluttering all about
together, laughing and frolicking
until the little girl hears a shout

~the day is nearly ended~

It is time for her to go to bed
the hour is getting late
with sadness she says goodbye
wondering
if she'll ever see the fairy again

~She most probably will~

sweet dreams little child
sweet dreams little fairy
