Harrison
Rating:
**** (very good)
This is one of the best George’s songs and it has a Byrd-ish sound. In fact, George told Roger McGuinn and David Crosby that ‘If I Needed Someone’ was inspired on two songs recorded by the Byrds: ‘The Bells Of Rhymney’ and ‘She Don’t Care About Time.’ The harmonies are superb. Moreover, the song was covered by the Hollies, an early 1966 Top 20 hit in UK.
George (1980): “‘If I Needed Someone’ is like a
million other songs written around a D chord. If you move your finger about you
get various little melodies. That guitar line, or variations on it, is found in
many a song, and it amazes me that people still find new permutations of the
same notes.”
Recorded: October 16, 1965 at Abbey Road, London, Englandwith overdubs added
October 18, 1965 Instrumentation: Paul McCartney - bass guitar, backing vocal George Harrison - lead vocal, lead guitar Ringo Starr - drums, tambourine |

IF
I NEEDED SOMEONE If
I needed someone to love You’re
the one that I’d be thinking of If
I needed someone If
I had some more time to spend Then
I guess I’d be with you my friend If
I needed someone Had
you come some other day Then
it might not have been like this But
you see now I’m too much in love Carve
your number on my wall And
maybe you will get a call from me If
I needed someone If
I had some more time to spend Then
I guess I’d be with you my friend If
I needed someone Had
you come some other day Then
it might not have been like this But
you see now I’m too much in love Carve
