Soon, Trixie, Honey and Di came spilling into the homey Crabapple Farm kitchen and after they had each given Moms a quick hug, Di twirled around to show them her new Clair McCardell signature dress. The eight-gore skirt flared out gently in soft folds.
Honey oohed and aahed over the tiny hearts imprinted in the narrow brown and red stripes, which met to create a �W� shape around the waist and bodice, creating a very flattering silhouette.
�You wouldn�t believe all the wonderful new styles we saw today! I got my homecoming dress today; a wonderful crisp taffeta and jacket with braided trim. And I have the most beautiful pearl bib necklace to wear with it! Mother practically fought another shopper for the last navy broadcloth suit with ball fringe; it�s the newest in high-fashion and they both wanted it! The saleslady said that she can�t keep them in stock, along with all the new sportswear � she said European designers are really taking note of all the new casual styles.�
�And you should have seen her hairdo,� Diana continued, after taking a big breath. �It was the new short, head-capping style that we�ve heard about. I just don�t think I could ever cut my hair, even if it does look so cute with the new little feathered pillbox hats.� Honey nodded her agreement.
She lowered her voice to a whisper. �You should see the men�s Hawaiian shirts they were selling � in the stores! We used to only see those on the beach! Wild island flowers and pictures of women, oh my!� She blushed.
Finally noticing Trixie�s bored expression, she turned to her. �Trixie, I know how uncomfortable you always are when trying on clothing. The shop is expecting a new line of clothes that are called �petite� for short-waisted women. So next time we go to the city, you�ll just have to come along. You�ll be so thrilled!�
Moms chuckled under her breath. Although Trixie smiled politely, Moms knew that nothing could make Trixie enjoy clothes shopping, not even the promise of well-fitting clothing! �Diana, your dress is darling and it really becomes you. It sounds like you had a very busy day.�
The sound of the Belden Buggy along with Brian�s jalopy could be heard from the drive, and before Moms knew it, the kitchen was filled to the brim with her family and their friends. Although she knew she�d have a busy evening, she wouldn�t have it any other way.
�Trixie honey, will you please go call Bobby in from outside?� Moms asked. �He is out there throwing around one of my Tupperware� lids with Reddy.� Moms, continuing on with a chuckle from the way her youngest son always mangled the English language, told the girls, �He came home from school all �cited from hearing about a new �scovery .�
�Oh yeah, we heard about that in our Current Events class,� Trixie told her mom as she headed toward the back door. �A couple of guys in California invented a plastic type Frisbie instead of a tin pie plate. They say it will go further and have better accu� accrat�.�
�The word is accuracy and the inventors are Walter F. Morrison and Warren Franscioni,� Mart injected into the conversation, making a quick dodge to get out of the way of his sister�s flapping hand. �You know something, Moms? Bobby is really pretty smart � I bet those new ones just might resemble something like a Tupperware� lid. We�ll have to wait and see though since it�ll be awhile before they are marketed.�
