Olympic Trials Score With Neilsen

Move over Tiger Woods!!  The final day of coverage of the US Oympic Track and Field Trials televised on NBC earned a 5.0 rating (1 rating point = 1,008,000 US homes).  It was the second-most watched sporting event of the weekend second only to the phenomenon otherwise known as Tiger Woods.

Other days of the Olympic Trials also rated high, beating out the Tour de France, figure skating, the Tyson-Savarese fight, and the US Women's Open.

NEW Javelin World Record

Trine Hattestad of Norway smashed the world record with a mighty throw of 227-11 at a recent European track event.  (Note:  Due to the change in the weight distribution in javs, I guess the previous records done with javelins without the change were nullified)

World-class shot putter felled by a failed drug test

Olympic shot put hopeful Tressa Thompson said she dropped out of the U.S. Olympic Trials after learning she tested positive for drugs.  The Omaha World-Herald reported Thursday that the 25-year-old former Nebraska All-American tested positive for cocaine, amphetamine, and methamphetamine at a meet last month in Portland, Oregon.  Thompson said she was curious and took the drugs with friends in Omaha and Lincoln two or three times this spring and summer, then hoped she wouldn't test positive. (Note to myself:  What not to do when you're in contention for an Olympic berth.)
