The Buddies Program through Big Brothers/Big Sisters provides in-school mentors to students in need.
Iowa City Police Department has joined with RSVP to help rebuild Neighborhood Watch.  This partnership is helping residents in Iowa City neighborhoods feel secure and know how to protect themselves and their property.  This program will be run primarily by volunteers.  Besides Neighborhood Watch, other volunteer opportunities in the Police Department are also available.
Kirkwood Learning Center needs volunteers to help tutor GED and ESL students.
Iowa Radio Reading Information Service (IRIS) is expanding to evening hours from 5-6 p.m.  IRIS reads local news from the Cedar Rapids Gazette.  Rob Davis, the new State Director, says Iowa is in the
forefront of services to the blind. 
Home Delivered Meals is in need of volunteer drivers.  Drivers are responsible for delivering meals to homebound seniors in the Iowa City area.  Driving routes normally take 1-2 hours over the noon hour.  Gasoline reimbursement is available. 
Friendly Visitor Program matches volunteers with homebound elders to provide socialization and integration within the community to prevent institutionalization.
Uptown Bill's is looking for volunteers to help owners operate their business - coffee and tea shop, antiques, and online business.

Volunteering in the Schools:
Rock & Read - Help children in grades K-2 to develop a love of reading.
SPEAK UP! - Teach public speaking skills to children in 5th grade.
Partners in Reading - Improve eighth grade students' literacy and reading motivation by reading
and journaling.
Pen Pals - Help children perfect reading and writing skills through letters.
Johnson County Court House:
Mediators - Assist the 6th Judicial District with small claims mediation.
Guides - Provide information and direct courthouse visitors to appropriate locations for legal needs.
Direct Mail Campaigns for Non-Profits:
Help prepare bulk mailings for local non-profit organizations such as the Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP), United Way, Table to Table, Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP),
Elder Services, etc...
AARP Tax Assistance Program:
Volunteers are trained and certified to prepare tax returns for low-income elders. 
University of Iowa College of Medicine - Volunteer Patients:
Help medical students develop clinical skills essential to becoming competent and caring physicians.
