The intent of this website is to provide customers with a simple way to create a travel plan. The goal was to include multiple factors into one website, such as various prices, locations, transportation, and more. This would hopefully result in helping users to comfortably design their plan and take trips more often than if they didn't use the website. To achieve this goal, I tried to include simple navigation and vocabulary, as well as pictures that captures the user's attention.
B. Defense of the Final Product
I wanted my design to be simple, but not too much. I used a soft blue color scheme because the website is supposed to ease the pressure of planning a trip. The blue shades hopefully provide a relaxed feeling, helping the user to calmly get through the planning. The orange highlights were added for a change in coloration, that still fit with the main color scheme. The fonts were designed to be fun and simple, without also looking childish. I used an overall minimalist approach with the images, so the page wouldn't look cluttered. For a little extra design, I used a bit of box shadowing on the page to make it look like light blue paper is on top of a darker blue background. The navigation panel is to the side, so it wouldn't interfere with the rest of the site, and it moves with the page for quick and easy access. The home page includes a video at the top to attract attention. Because a website has a very short amount of time to get the user's attention, I hoped a short video explaining why it's beneficial to travel would help. The rest of the website is short, without anything distracting the user from the information provided. At the same time, the website is designed to not be too plain and boring.
C. Opportunities for Improvement and Growth
In the future, I hope to be able to add more features. As stated in the description of the home page, the business is also supposed to have a tour feature. I had also hoped to add a restaurant menu page, which would've had various menus for popular eating spots around the world. Additionally, I wanted to add a photo gallery of popular places to visit. I think I would've also liked to add more engaging features, like a slideshow, some more videos, and image interaction. I had thought of these before I began building the website, but quickly overwhelmed myself, so I thought that a minimalist design would be better until I can improve my HTML5 skills.
