| The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia which was already being planned by VW boss Heinrich Nordoff and Wilhelm Karmann as far back as 1951. In collaboration with Itailian designer Luigi Segre, Ghia styling house, in 1953 the first two-seater prototype was produced. In 1955, the VW Karmann Ghia was introduced to journalist and Volkswagen dealers at the Kasino Hotel in Georgsmarienhutte. In August of t hat year the VW Karmann Ghia was mass produced. In 1957, the convertible version was produced. In 1 958, the Karmann Ghia received a modified front section. Obvious alterations are the healights were set higher and the air vents were made bigger and the additional chrome trims. The tail lights a lso was replaced from box shaped lamps to tear shaped ones. In 1961, a new variant of the Karmann Ghia was produced the type 34. The last year of the Karmann Ghia was 1974. | ||||||||||
