The Descendants of Joseph Loomis in Colonial America

The information in these pages is a work-in-progress.

I have relied heavily on second hand information about the various lines in this family. Most of what I present here is taken from genealogical histories of the family. Even in these published works, I have found many inaccuracies. While I try to present the most accurate data I can, some of it has been collected from sources which are unreliable in the consistency of their data and some information is just exploratory and subject to correction and revision at any time. I believe most of the material that is documented and verified is accurate, but there is always the possibility that is isn't entirely accurate. I have disagreed on several points with various authors, and found conflicting data, most of which I've added as alternate events or in the Notes section. So while I believe most of the material is accurate, some names, dates and places are listed in my database tentatively or even speculatively for my use as a starting point at which to conduct more research. If I have documented the source of the material, the probability of it being correct is normally as good as the surety level. If I haven't documented the information, I probably got it from an other than normally reliable source. And while some of the information in these undocumented sources proves to be accurate, I have found, for the most part, the information is untrustworthy and unreliable.

In the past 6 months, not only have I added a great number of people in the line of descent from Joseph Loomis & Mary White, I have also verified much more of the information and have changed a lot of information from previous versions.

If you use any of this information, you should check it yourself for accuracy. If you have used information on these pages from past versions, you should recheck all information. Please do not use my research as a source. It is a work-in-progress and, as such, is continually changing.

I continue to add lines, but some are still incomplete. I will continue to expand the descendants of Joseph Loomis & Mary Loomis through the colonial period of our country's history. The latter part of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century was a period of rapid expansion for the country and many of the Loomis family and related families were adventurers and pioneers. They moved not only west, but south and southwest, eventually winding up in California.

If you have any information which conflicts or adds to these lines during the first seven generations of this family, feel free to send me the information. If you can add information to any of these lines, please send me a gedcom and include all citations and sources.

Thanks & good hunting.
