Hook size 'H"
Basic Granny sq:
Make 14, following graph for colors, change color each row.
R1- ch 4, join for ring.
Ch 5, (counts as dc, ch 2: here and
each beginning row herafter), [3dc, ch 2] 3X in
ring, 2 dc, join in 3rd ch.
R2- sl st in ch-2 sp, Ch 5, 3 dc in same sp (corner), ch 1, *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc
in next ch 2 sp,
ch 1* rep 3X, 2 dc in next sp. Join in 3rd ch.
R3- sl st in ch-2 sp, Ch 5, 3dc in same sp, *ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1,
3 dc, ch 2, 3
dc in next ch-2 sp,* rep 3X; ch 1, 2 dc in next sp. Join in 3rd ch.
R4- sl st in ch-2 sp. Ch 5, 3 dc in same sp, *ch 1, [3dc in next sp, ch 1] 2X,
3 dc, ch 2, 3
dc in next ch-2 sp, * rep 3 X: ch 1, 2 dc in next sp. Join in 3rd ch.
For checkerboard square: Make 2:
Make round 1 of granny square - make 3 yellow, 2 red, 2 green, 2 blue.
Weave all ends
in Sew together following color chart.
Diagonal sq. 1:
Make 6 rows of diagonal squares, with green, decrease 5 rows red.
Diagonal sq. 2:
Make 6 rows diagonal squares, with blue, decrease 5 rows yellow.
Diagonal sq 3:
Make 6 rows of diagonal squares with yellow, decrease 5 rows green.
Diagonal sq. 4:
Make 6 rows of diagonal squares with red, decrease 5 rows with blue.
Make a circle of each color: ch 4, join, ch3, 11 dc, in center (12 st.)
weave in all ends, sew red circle to center of green diagonal, sew blue
circle to center of
yellow diagonal, sew yellow circle to center of red diagonal, sew green circle
to center of
blue diagonal.
Join rows as follows:
Using a different color for each row:
Lay squares out according to diagram: Pick up sq 1 & sq 5 (holding wrong
sides
together, sc in corner thru both squares, ch 3, sk 2 st, (sc inbetween dc
group, ch 3)3X, ch
3, sc in corners, ch 1) across each sq to end of row.
Rpt until all the rows are joined across.
Working in up and down rows: work the same, joining each
square across, using a
different color for each joining row.
Border:
R1 - with green, sc in each st around,
R2 -join yellow, ch 4 ( counts as 1st dc and ch 1), sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, *ch
1, sk next sc,
dc in next sc* around.
Repeat R2 - with a row of blue,
Rpt R2 -with a row of red.
Sc in ea stitch of first side with red, sc in ea st of next side with green, sc
in ea st of next
side with blue, sc in ea st of last side with yellow. Join. fasten off, weave
in all ends.
