The Cathedral Museum in Archbishop Square is an imposing baroque palace housing rich collections of art and archaelogy as well as important archives. The building, completed in 1744, was constructed as a Diocesan Seminary and served its purpose up to the first decade of the present century; it was then utilized by various ecclesiastical and educational institutions until on 5 January 1969 it was inaugurated by Sir Maurice Dorman, Governor-General of Malta, as the Cathedral's Museum.
