It is our hope that the information contained on this site goes some way to answering any
questions or doubts which you may have had regarding your membership of the RAP.
There are several points which are worth bearing in mind:
(1)
The RAP is NOT a counterfeit religion or an alternative means of salvation. As a Protestant
organisation, we believe in salvation through Christ alone, by faith alone. We believe in the
supremacy of the Holy Scriptures as the word of God, and from their teaching we draw all our
basic principles.
(2)
The RAP is NOT a Protestant version of Freemasonry, nor is it directly descended from
Freemasonry or witchcraft. Any superficial similarities with Freemasonry which may exist are
wholly incidental, and do not affect the substance of the RAP degree. The Christian objections
to Freemasonry, valid though they may be, cannot be consistently applied to Orangeism in general
or the RAP in particular.
(3)
The RAP is NOT an oath-bound secret society. There are matters, which we choose to keep private,
for the benefit of future members, and like any other organisation we reserve the right to
confidentiality. We do not, however, administer oaths of unconditional secrecy. The obligation
within the degree is termed a 'precedent conditional' obligation, and is a perfectly acceptable
process in law.
(4)
The RAP does NOT demand loyalty over and above a believer's loyalty to his saviour and to the
Church. This has been shown by the large number of Arch Purplemen currently engaged in
evangelistic work and the various ministries of the Church.
What the Royal Arch Purple IS:
(1)
A means of promoting members of the Loyal Orange Institution who have proved themselves
trustworthy and honourable.
(2)
A living oral tradition passed down for almost three centuries, which forms an important
part of our culture and protestant heritage.
(3)
A time-honoured method of restating and reaffirming, in a dramatic and memorable manner, the
central truths of the Protestant faith, as expressed through the Biblical account of God's
dealings with the children of Israel.
We pray that all Christian Arch Purplemen will give very careful consideration to the facts contained on this site. It is our hope that no Arch Purpleman would consider resigning his membership on the basis of the unsound and inaccurate information which we have attempted to refute.
