Thruways 1st Annual Travel Plaza Of The Year Award Goes To Schenectady Area Travel Stop

The New York State Thruway Authority and its Office of Travelers Services today announced that the Pattersonville Travel Plaza is the winner of the first annual, statewide Travel Plaza of the Year award following a competition among the Thruways 27 travel plazas.

The Pattersonville Travel Plaza, located between Exits 26 (Schenectady) and 27 (Amsterdam) off the westbound direction of the Thruway, was honored with a special award presentation today to acknowledge its excellent customer service and cleanliness.

"We are very proud of the hard-working staff at the Pattersonville Travel Plaza," said Thruway Authority Executive Director John Platt. "This award is a well-deserved honor acknowledging the dedication to quality customer service for Thruway motorists."

The Travel Plaza of the Year award was designed to foster a true spirit of competition among Thruway concessionaires in an attempt to provide the best customer service possible. Runners-up included the Ramapo (Suffern area), Dewitt (Syracuse) and Scottsville (Rochester) Travel Plazas.

A team of representatives from the Thruway Authoritys Office of Travelers Services, HMS Host Corporation, Sunoco, Mobil, and McDonalds Corporation evaluated each of the Thruways 27 Travel Plazas. Pattersonville achieved the overall highest score in a weighted, multi-part competition, based on the Travel Plaza of the Year Inspection, the Superintendents Annual Maintenance Inspection, various routine inspections at both the restaurants and fuel stations, and customer feedback.

A sign will be posted along the Thruways mainline proclaiming Pattersonville as Travel Plaza of the Year. Additionally, the Plaza will receive a plaque for the lobby and each employee will be presented with a pin. It is hoped that the signage will prompt customers to visit Pattersonville and experience the great customer service first hand. In addition, it will serve as an incentive for future competitions.

Attendees at the award ceremony included Thruway Authority Executive Director John Platt, Thruway Authority Director of Operations Chuck Lattuca, HMS Host Corporation Vice President of Operations Greg Dion, and Division Marketing Manager of Sunoco Corporation Alan Rogers.
