But if you're a health-conscious person (or at least striving to be healthy), glutathione might just be the perfect skin whitener for you.
"Whitening pills" or glutathione is increasingly gaining its momentum here in the Philippines. Glutathione is a naturally-occurring amino acid produced primarily in our liver. Simply put, this is a substance highly essential in our system, especially for the protection of our lungs and liver. It is called the "master anti-oxidant" in our body and performs a tremendous capacity in the detoxification of harmful toxins that are naturally accumulated in our body (through smoking for example). Whenever we smoke, drink alcohol, or continuously live in a polluted environment, our glutathione plummets to a dangerously low level. Thus, there's a need for glutathione supplement.
Now, this is where the exciting part comes in. The main side effect this anti-oxidant/ anti-aging medication is skin whitening. Yes, you've read it right. And this one is scientifically proven to be a safe and effective skin-whitener; no fads, no myths. One only needs to double the dosage to obtain the desired whitening "side effect." As an anti-oxidant, the required dosage is between 10 and 20 mg per kg of body weight per day, to be divided into two doses. So if you weigh 50 kg, you will need 500-1000 mg of it taken into three doses. But if you're taking this for its whitening purposes, and you weigh the same, the ideal dosage would be 2000 mg divided in two to three doses each day. This is to be maintained for three months to two years, depending on your skin color and type, as well as your desired skin color.
But of course, no wonder solution to a popularly collectivist concern (in this case, to achieve a fairer complexion) could come with less cost. The lowest price for glutathione is P1800 for every 60 250-mg capsules; that's P30 for every 250 mg capsule. You might say that's rather cheap, especially if you'll consider the benefits. Remember, 2000 mg would be the required daily dosage for someone who weighs 50 kg - and that makes it P240 each day, or P7200 every month. Pretty hard to maintain, right? Some people might actually go for it; in fact, for some people, that's little compared to the supposed "sociological returns" one gets from being fair-complexioned.
