He married Elizabeth "Eliza" Hall, July 08, 1853, in Anderson Co.,KY., the daughter of Alexander Hall and Nancy Kendall. Alexandar Hall was born in Scotland. Elizabeth was born February 13, 1838 in Shelby Co., KY. James was a farmer. He died May 29, 1904 in Clay Twp., Owen Co., IN. The cause of death was listed as uremic poisoning. Services were conducted by Drescher Funeral Home, Spencer, Owen Co., IN. and burial was in Troy Cemetery, Elizabeth died August 11, 1912 in Clay Twp. Owen Co., IN. Troy Cemetery is located across the road and down a few feet from the Adel Church of Christ, near Freedom, in Owen Co., Indiana. At one time it was called the Troy Church of Christ. Mary Jane Noel's Obituary: Daughter of Merritt and Eliza (Hall) Noel was born Dec. 21, 1855, and departed this life, Oct. 12, 1920, aged 64 years, 9 months and 21 days. Sis, as everyone called her was the second child of 13 children. She with her sister, America lived on the old farm where they took care of father and mother until death took them home. After that they lived by themselves. Sis was a hard worker, always doing more than she should have done; always ready to help others, in every way possible. She obeyed the Gospel when 16 or 17 years of age at Troy Church of Christ, living a true Christian life always attending services as long as circumstances permitted. To know her was to love her and to meet her was to find a friend. She leaves to mourn 6 brothers and 3 sisters and a host of friends and other relatives. Those living are James H., America V. George A., Merritt, Isaac W., Mrs. Ida Sims, Carl, Alva and Mrs. Stella Roudebush, three being called home early in life Ivy, Charley and Albert. "Blessed are the dead, who die in the Lord" The funeral services were conducted by Ed. A.W. Harry of Troy Church of Christ in the presence of a large encourse of neighbors and friends and burial was make in the cemetery near by. NOEL DIES IN BLOOMINGTON HOSPITAL Elderly Man dies in Bloomington Hospital Thursday Afternoon Following a Short Illness. George Alexander Noel, 87 years old, for many years a resident of this county, died last Thursday afternoon in the Bloomington Hospital, following a short illness of complications. He was born in Orange County, October 20, 1860, a son of the late James Merritt and Eliza (Hall) Noel. His wife, the former Miss Rachel Livingston, preceded him in death, Sept.15, 1941. Mr. Noel was a member of the Church of Christ at Bloomington. He made his home with his son, Walter, in Bloomington for the past several years. Survivors include the four sons, Walter and Hershel Noel, of Bloomington; Virgil and Rolla Noel, both of Spencer; one brother, Carl of Bloomington; one sister, Mrs. Ida Sims of Morris, Ill; Fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. One daughter, Mrs. Bessie McClure, preceded him in death. Funeral rites were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the West & Sons Funeral Home Spencer, IN, Rev. A. She is the last of six children and had spent practically all her life in the immediate neighborhood. She was born in Bloomington near where the court house now stands. The family left there when she was about seven years old and she had often stated that there were only two stores in Bloomington at the time. Surviving her are five children, Virgil, Walter and Rolla, and Mrs. Bessie McClure, all of Spencer and vicinity; and Herschel Noel of Bloomington. Noel, 72 for many years a resident of Spencer, died early Monday morning at the home of his son, Edgar Murl Noel, in Bloomington, following a long illness. He was a retired employee of the Showers Co. of Bloomington. He was born August 10, 1881 in Greene County a son of the late George A. Noel and Rachel (Livingston) Noel. Mr. Noel was a member of the Church of Christ at Adel. He and Mrs. Noel celebrated their golden wedding three years ago. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Genora H. (Ooley) Noel; three daughters: Mrs. Edith Dean, Spencer rte 4; Mrs Mae Hendricks, Spencer rte 3, and Mrs. Hazel Wood, Spencer rte 1. He also leaves one son, Edgar Murl Noel of Bloomington and three brothers, Virgil, Herschell, and Rolla Noel. Following death the body was brought to the West & Son Funeral Home where funeral rites were held yesterday (Wed.) afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. M.E. Scott, in charge, and interment was made in Gross Cemetery. Burial: June 16, 1954, Gross Cemetery, Owen Co., IN. His wife, Genora Helen Ooley, was also buried at Gross Cemetery, in Owen Co., Indiana. VIRGIL F. NOEL: died while living at the Gosport {Wampler} Nursing Home, on Oct. 14, 1972 at 1:00pm. West and Son Funeral Home in Spencer was in charge of the service. Virgil was buried at Gross Cemetery, Owen Co., Indiana, on October 17, 1972. His wife, STELLA ETHEL BURKS, died June 3, 1974, at 11:50pm, while living at Gosport Nursing Home. Camden, was born October 23, 1875; departed this life Sept. 6th, 1919, aged 43 years, ten months and fifteen days. She was married to Carlie Noel Aug. 23, 1895. To this union were born two sons, Coy and Russel. She united with the church at Troy in 1893 under Tonie Jackson's preaching. She held her membership till called home. She had been in ill health for some time but for two months she had been a constant sufferer. She bore her sickness with Christian courage, never complaining, but was always ready and willing to do her best. She had seemed better for a day or two that her death came as a shock to her family and friends. She told her family, always ready to greet you with a kind word and a smile. Those left to mourn her loss are a husband, two sons, Coy and Tussel, an aged father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. James Thacker and Mrs. Calvin Carpenter, Three brothers, Paris, Sam and Enoch Camden, besides a host of relatives and friends. The sorrowing family have the deepest sympathy of the entire neighborhood. They have this consolation, she died trusting in the loving care of her Savior who was ready to receive her in the home prepared for the faithful. Their loss is her eternal gain. Obituary for Alva Noel: ALVA NOEL DIES AT BRAZIL: FORMER RESIDENT HERE Alva Noel, 62 years old, a former resident of this county died Thursday of last week at his home in Brazil, follign a long illness. Survivors include the widow, one son ad two daughters. Also several brothers and sisters and a number of grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Brazil and internment was made in the Cottage Hill Cemetery. Obituary for Ida Noel - wife of Alva Noel: IDA NOEL DEAD Mrs. Ida {Ranard} Noel, 62 a former Owen County lady, died Monday in Brazil after an illness of three months. She was a daughter of Ben Ranard and was born in Clay Twp. Word of her death was sent to relatives here. Surviving are her father, her husband, Alva Noel, two daughters, and a son, all of Brazil; six brothers, Oliver, John, Gilbert, and Dempsey, all of Spencer, Daniel of Clay Twp. and Edward of Bloomfield; also two sisters living in Morocco, Ind.
