Swingers may be, like us, promiscuous, having sex with
many other couples, and consequently there is a real risk of sexually transmitted
infections (STIs). If you don't use condoms, there is a real risk of infection,
from vaginal warts and gonorrhoea up to AIDS. Significant increases in STIs
have been reported in recent years as people become complacent about AIDS
and using condoms.
There is a real risk of infection with AIDS for swingers
having unprotected anal or vaginal sex. One thing that can be said with
absolute certainty is that using condoms for penetrative sex of any kind
dramatically reduces the risk of infection with STIs. One of the USA's most
respected AIDS experts, Dr. Robert Scott, has been treating people living
with AIDS since the epidemic broke in the early '80s. He said "If we
could, in fact, get people to use rubbers when there's either vaginal or
rectal intercourse, I think that we could stem the transmission of this
disease by 99.9 percent.".
In regard or oral sex, he added that "if a person
does not have open sores in their mouth, transmitting HIV through oral sex
is "virtually impossible."". The Terence Higgins Trust however
indicates that oral sex carries a potential risk when it comes to HIV transmission,
and that although it is much safer than anal sex, it is not risk free.
The choice is yours. However, we think the one rule you
should never, ever break is to practice safe sex. Don't risk it, it isn't
worth it. Use a well fitted condom, and use lubricant (so it doesn't break)
if you're having exceptionally hard or anal sex. We also use spermicidal
jelly - quite apart from Suzie not being on the pill, there is evidence
that it protects against STIs. Using condoms won't spoil your fun. You can
make it an exciting precursor to swapping.
We've found seasoned swinging couples often "lick their lips"
as the condoms go on - it is the sign for action!
Enjoy your swinging and play safely! |
