| Week of: 4-7 September Unit/Chapter: Unit 1/C1 , C2 Movie None Monday Labour Day, No School Tuesday Objectives (C1-2, 1-3): 1. Students will be able to differentiate between an hypothesis and a theory. 2. Students will be able to describe two different methods for testing hypotheses HW: Review your class notes. Lab Hour 1 Objectives (C1-3): 1. Students will be able to describe the different levels of biological organization. 2. Students will be able to define and give examples to explain the term �emergent property�. Note- section 1-4 should be review for all of you, therefore we will not cover it explicitly in class. However, you are responsible for that information- it will appear on the Chapter test) Lab hour 2 Objective (Study Skills, you can pre-read in your Getting Ready for Biology book if you purchased it, note to parents- that book is optional but a good resource for study skills and various other related topics) 3. Students will learn how to read their textbook (no, it�s not just a bad novel!)- SQ3/4R method. HW: Practice using SQ3/4R method; review relevant materials in textbook for C1 and C2-1). Friday HALF DAY Objectives (C1, C2): 1. Students will demonstrate their comprehension of the scientific method (This means there's a quiz!) 2. Students will be able to describe the structure of an atom. HW: Make a 3-D model of a methane (CH4) molecule. Must be light enough to hang from the ceiling by a paperclip, and be no more than 30 cm long. Attach a key identifying the different parts of your molecule. Use your textbook and the internet to help you. Due Tuesday. |
