Inside this V, stands the large chalice; which is you. It represents having your house in perfect order and having your affairs of the heart at the moment of your fullest expectations. This card is true romance and lasting love. However, where the Nine of Chalices shows long-term pain for long-term gain, the suddenness of success with this Ten, like all Tens, warn that there is a possibility of things falling apart as quickly unless there is a commitment to work for long lasting success. Do not allow this good outcome to slip through your fingers.
Reversed: The Ten of Chalices is deception, lies and perhaps even infidelity. It is disappointment and disillusionment found with broken hearts and broken dreams. If may also be representative of the feelings of hopelessness and despair found in a situation that feels like being in a trap or being imprisoned. Princess of Chalices: We see the Princess is relaxed beside a flowing stream, where she appears lost in a moment of thought looking at the water. This card is that moment of contemplation and you are now her. You are looking longing into the future and dreaming of what we hope will be, what may be and what will be. The forest is green and lush symbolizing fertility, comfort and beauty. Standing behind the trees looking and watching over her is the Prime of Chalices, with its perfection, compassion and understanding. The Princess appears strong and capable of facing whatever challenges she will face in completing here destiny. The sun is rising over the chalice and this is signalling a new day and new dream and new possibilities.
Reversed: The Princess is blissfully unaware of the world around her, the Prime of Chalice now inverted is reflective of lost dreams, unfulfilled potential and an a resignation to accept the will of others and always have a haunting doubt of what could have been. This card, now rather than showing innocence could be the negative actions of an outside force robbing her of strength, hope and dignity. If this is the case is then it is the time to break free against this oppression.Prince of Chalices: This Prince like all Princes is impatient for the future days of his ascendancy to Kingship. He is unaware of the world around him and the protocols of office. He is squandering his creative efforts on fruitless pursuits, yet these pursuits will provide him with knowledge needed for later in life. On this card we see that the trees are denuded of leaves showing a disregard for both birthright and fertility. He has turned his back on the pyramids of power and on his companion while he is in pursuit of new adventures. This card is best described as living life in the fast lane and fully enjoying its offering. The positive note to this seemingly excessive lifestyle is the gaining wisdom in you will need later in what is seen now as untraditional and unconventional ways
Reversed: The Prince is the more than a fool, he is proud, vain and self-centred. He cares nothing for tradition or traditional values. He is reckless and free, his companion has let him go and he is distancing himself from his loved ones. He is playing with fire and will get burned unless much more discretion is used.
Queen of Chalices: The Queen is fittingly dressed in a dress of royal blue. The Queen is the consummate mother aware, loving, fertile and loving. She dances with the King at the centre of her world. She is not impressed by the gold and by the glitter of temporal and material things; she is only impressed by love and commitment she offers and that she receives. There is a shower of stars in the background as the Heavens are raining upon her blessings upon blessings. The Eye of Horus is the Divine nature of the Universe blessing her in all ways. There stands a single chalice to each side of her, one is representing the past, and the one other is the future as she is the bridge between the generations. This card is tells the Querant to celebrate love and life, and to remember what is really important. Those things being joy, love and peace, things money cannot buy and things that time will not fade.
Reversed: The Queen is still in authority and a force to be reckoned with. However, she is now older her charges see her as something from the past. She clings to her dreams living in the past. There is a small hope that those dreams may still come to pass but this is unlikely. To the Querant this perhaps indicates the need for a reassessment of the current conditions and the hopes for future possibilities should be closely and realistically examined.
King of Chalices: The King is the most powerful card of the suit, and this King, has within himself the best and strongest elements of a good man and a just man. He is the personification of all the masculine traits and elements of the war god Mars; yet these strong and even aggressive instincts are tempered by the feminine Moon. As we can see on this card, there underlying the green hills of the feminine fertility aspect of this suit are outcrops of rocks and this offer a stable understanding of the world and how the world works. It could be seen as a velvet glove on a fist of steel. The King of Chalices is truly the master of all he sees and he rules his kingdom with strength and power knowing that true power lies in wisdom not in force. He is the best of men and the best in that in being a husband and father. He is a man of action and now is the time for action.
Reversed: He may becoming too focused on material items and by attempting to be a good provider he has placed family second to business, a victim of his own success and excesses. The King has become too focused on the ideal and the imaginary and he has lost sight of the practical and realistic. This card reversed warns of failure due to rash actions and lack of forethought. The King may have travelled full cycle and once again is living, if not acting like the Prince of Chalices. |
