47. Martha GILLILAND ⁽¹⁷⁾ was born between 1835 and 1837 in VA.^{(54) (55)} Martha married a Church but we have not been able to find his name. Her twin sister Elizabeth married Nathanial Church.The 1870 Lee County Va census state her age age 36 and the 1880 census shows the age as 43. The 1870 census has her in the household of Rachel Gillian with:
Samuel J.W. 10
Martha E. 8
James C. 2

It is said that the Church men left during the Civil War and never returned. It is said that they were seen after the war in Sneedville TN. Another rumor was that they had other families in Wise County, Va and they returned to them. If James is Martha son it does not fit.

In the 1880 she is in the household of David Thomas and Anna. There is a James in this household age 10 but he is listed under the family of David and Anna. Martha is listed as 43 and Rachel is in the household. Children were:

23 i. Betty Alice Ann Elizabeth CHURCH.
ii. Samuel J. W. CHURCH⁽³⁹⁾ was born in 1869/70.
iii. James CHURCH^{(56) (17)}. James is in the household of Rachel at age 2. in the 1870 Lee County census under the name of Martha Church.
