History

Brgy. Captain ROLANDO DAPAR, Hon, DEMOTHENIS ARABACA, Municipal Mayor of MAGALLANES and Mr. JEHO CANIN, Secondary School Principal II of MAGALLANES National High School. On that time, Mr. SOL S. REJIS, Head Teacher III of MAGALLANES NHS, Social Studies Department designated as the Officer-in-charge.

Because of far distance of Barangay Magallanes from the town proper and from the nearby institution, which is almost 7.5 kilometers from Lalaguna Rural Academy, youth and graduates of Magallanes Elementary School and other nearby barangay could not continue to pursue secondary education. It is for this reason that the local officials of MAGALLANES donated a 20,000 square meters of lot for the establishment of first locally funded Barangay High School, an annex of Lopez National High School from 1990 to 1994.

The first year class with a total of 35 students was organized and housed at Magallanes Elementary School with Mrs. Gracia S. Barranta and Miss Felicitas A. Alboladora as the pioneer teachers. The first day of classes was started on October 23, 1990 up to the last day of May 1991 and due to the late opening of classes, students did not enjoy Christmas and Summer Vacation to cope up with the required number of school days.

From 35 students of its first year operation, it was increased to 111 students on June, the opening of School Year 1991-1992, and additional four locally funded teachers were hired namely: Miss Myrna L. Barreno, Mr. Marciano Langit, Mrs. Belen S. Roman and Mrs. Siony A. Gabotero.

Year 1994 was marked as the First Commencement Exercises of 40 senior students with Mrs. Siony A. Gabotero as their adviser. In that year, Magallanes NHS has a total enrolment of 243 students with seven locally funded teachers.

On March 8, 1994, DECS Secretary Armand Fabella, signed the approval of the establishment of Magallanes National High School. It was then when the two classrooms from Senator Rene Saguisag ware constructed. After a year, another four classrooms from Congressman Wigberto Tañada and two classrooms from Isaias B. Ubana II were added.

The first national item was released on August of 1996 to Mrs. Siony A. Gabotero. On that year, she was designated by the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Leonora B. Guerrero, as the Teacher-in-charge of the school. After a year, another seven national teacher items were received.

It was from the establishment of this institution to the present that we realized its success. Today, Magallanes NHS, which already an implementing unit, is serving more than 500 students, one Secondary School Principal II, 18 teachers comprise the teaching force, Disbursing Officer and Senior Bookkeeper.
