Wherein I Rant About The Fushigi Yuugi Fandom in General
Rosie`s feeling ranty. Here comes a rant. Today`s target is Fushigi Yuugi fanfiction. Because, Lord God. It REALLY needs someone to rant about it.
For starters, I am completely convinced that no one over the age of eight writes Fushigi Yuugi fanfiction. The entire domain is populated by lame, stupid, immature fankids. Their writing style is comparative to what mine was when I was eight. Maybe. Seven, actually, by the time I was eight, I had learned a TINY bit about tense and person. They also have characters who speak Japanese and English at the same time, but suck badly at both. There are often six different people talking in one paragraph, no capital letters, and erratic punctuation.
Secondly. There are five plots. Only five. Five easy, fill in the blank plots. Here they are.
1. A GIRL (Who is either some Mary Sue, or a Mary Sue-ized version of the poor, doomed Hikari Sukunami) goes on the field trip to the National Library and gets pulled inside the book. She goes and has adventures exactly like those in Fushigi Yuugi and great rendundancies happen.
2. A GIRL (Who either Suzuno Oosugi or Takiko Okuda, and is nothing like the Takiko Okuda in Genbu Kaiden and actually more like just another FREAKING MARY SUE) somehow opens the book and becomes an earlier Priestess. The story victimizes all that is known about the characters of Tatara, Tokaki, Subaru, Tomite, and Hikitsu, not to mnetion ignores all Genbu Kaiden info. The girl has adventures exactly like those in Fushigi Yuugi and great rendundancies happen.
3. A GIRL (Who is either some Mary Sue, or a Mary Sue-ized version of, once again, the poor, doomed Hikari Sukunami)somehow lamely enters the book and does so only to fall in love with the spirit of Nuriko. Because we all know Nuriko goes for Mary Sues and/or the daughter of two of her best friends.
4. TASUKI AND CHICHIRI (Who are both wildly out of character) have hot nights of wild, rampaging sex. For a twist on this plot, they have a romantic interlude, then have hot nights of wild, rampaging sex. Disregarding the fact that Tasuki is in love with Miaka and Chichiri is still in love with his first love.
5. SOME GIRL WHO CAN`T WRITE (as in, the author) writes badly made, script-form Miaka and Tamahome bashing, using Nuriko, Tasuki, Chichiri, the twins, or herself as an outlet.
There we go. There are the plots. 3000 odd stories at ff.net, and THOSE are the five plots that are used over and over and over again. Sure, there are maybe 1 or 2 different plots there, but, chances are, there are not.
Then there`s the whole Tasuki/Chichiri thing. WHERE THE HELL ARE PEOPLE GETTING THIS TASUKI/CHICHIRI THING???? Honestly, people! "Well, you`re the only two left alive. They have something in common." I mean, GOD! There is not any suggestion in Fushigi Yuugi that Tasuki OR Chichiri swing that way. The closest would be Tasuki saying "I don`t really like girls."
Right after he tried to molest Miaka.
And were we all BLIND during that part in the OVAs when it was most OBVIOUS that Tasuki was in love with Miaka? What about Chichiri and his old girlfriend? These two are NOT interested in each other! And they are in differetn halves of the world by OVA 3 ... this is NOT the endless love that never ceases, apparently. Gah.
Finally, have you EVER seen Miaka OR Tamahome in these fanfictions if they are NOT being bashed? They`re the two freaking main characters! You could show them a little bit! God, pretty much all we see is Nuriko falling in love with eveery Mary Sue to waltz into the story, lots of Mary Sues, and Tasuki and Chichiri, once again, having wild, rampaginf sex. HONESTLY people.
Good grief. Could we have someone with a BRAIN write some FY fanfiction? Please??
