High Voltage- Part 1

Moira looked up, startled, at the knock on the door. She hurried to open it and was quite astonished to see a girl standing there, dripping.

ÒWell, come in, child! YouÕll catch your death of cold if you stay out in the rain!Ó

ÒIÕm looking for Moira MacTaggert,Ó the girl murmered with a thick British accent.

ÒAnd youÕve found her, girl. Now come inside and get dry.Ó Moira reached to take the girl by the hand, but she skittered back out of MoiraÕs reach and into the rain.

ÒDonÕt touch,Ó the girl snapped. In response to the confusion written on MoiraÕs face, she sighed, ÒItÕs something of an odd story. Can I tell you later? Just make certain I wonÕt come into contact with anything tnat conducts electricity well.Ó

Moira looked surprised at the request, but nodded. ÒLet me take a stab in the dark: mutant powers?Ó

ÒI daresay that wouldÕve been a killing blow,Ó the girl aid wryly as the followed Moira inside. ÒYou can call me Voltage.Ó

Moira glanced over her shoulder. ÒNo other names?Ó

Voltage shook her head. ÒItÕs more of that story.Ó She fingered a lock of curling brown hair and stared at it. It wasnÕt wet. In fact, the clothes she was wearing were the only things that were-- well, they and MoiraÕs floor.

Moira stopped in front of a room and ushered Voltage in. She pulled a few assorted articles of clothing out of a bureau and placd them on the bed. ÒYou can get changed in here. Put your wet things in the sink,Ó she indicated a washroom, Òand then weÕll see about getting you something to eat, and you can tell me why you came here.Ó

ÒMy gratitude, Dr. MacTaggert.Ó Voltage said courteously. Moira smiled and shut the door, waiting pateintly for Voltage to be out. Less than a minute later, the door opened and Voltage, clad in the dry clothing, stepped into the hall.

ÒAbout that food...Ó she began.

ÒAbout that Ôodd storyÕ...Ó Moira said similarly with a warm smile.
