MORE EVENTS & PARTIES OF THE 80s

Noel and Ron
(This was Ron's mustache era)
In March 1981, Ron and I decided to give up the house as Penny had moved in with her boyfriend, and we wanted to save for a summer cottage. So we rented an apartment back in the same building that Don and I had lived.
In the spring of '81, my Dad had a quadruple bypass while in Victoria B.C. He was 79 years old and the doctors were not sure he would survive as they had never performed such a severe operation on a person of that age before. If he did survive they said it would give him another 5 years. Without the operation, he probably would die within 6 months. I flew out to be with Mom until it was over. Dad not only survived, but lived another 15 years. However it scared Mom and Dad and they decided that they did not want to be in Victoria when they died.
I found them an apartment in our building until they could get into a seniors apartment. They moved Nov '81 Luckily, it only took 6 months to get them into a seniors home, because it hadn't take long for Mom to try to domineer my life again.
In March of '82, Ron and I found the cottage we wanted in the Kawartha Lakes Area just 70 miles from Toronto.Mom and Dad loaned us the balance of the down payment and we promised to have them up every long week-end. We not only kept our promise for the next 14 years, but renovated the cottage inside and out 4 times until we finally had our  beautiful lakefront retirement home .

Norm's Halloween Party Oct 1982
When we were asked to this party, we knew the costumes would be amazing. I had know Norm for many years and was well aware of the kind of party he could throw. I mentioned to Ron that we had to wear something that no-one would expect. Ron had dressed in drag the odd time when he was younger and knew where he could borrow wigs and make-up, so I finally said "Why Not?" We were supposed to be prostitutes, but as you can see, because of my 'full figure' and Ron's limited wardrobe, we came out as a 'Madam' and a 'School Marm'. But it was fun, and sure surprized a lot of people. I must admit. it was not the last time we dressed in drag for a special occasion.

That's my ex, Don, second from the right
The picture above shows one of our best friends, Bill, (in the armour)  and his date for the night.
Myself on the left. The Bride is  Norm. Can you believe he was just short of his 60th birthday?
However, they had an outing during the night and Bill took the Indian Chief home. Bill complained for weeks about the red makeup all over his sheets, his rug and his kitchen table. I didn't ask!
