VILLAGE 'BOBBY' POUNDS BEAT AGAIN

EDITORIAL

We now have a village 'Bobby', but who is he?
Thanks to the sponsorship of a police officer by The Berkeley Leisure Group Ltd. for the West Coker Police Beat, PC 3175 lain Stamper is our village 'Bobby'.  Should you want to contact PC Stamper, you can either:
1 Leave a message for him to contact you on the Avon and Somerset Police Call Centre, telephone 01275 818181
2 Leave a message for him to contact you on his Avon and Somerset Police telephone voice mail system, telephone number 01935 402268, then dial the mail box number 73175
3 Write to him at Crewkerne Police Station, South Street, Crewkerne, TA18 8AA
or
4 On seeing him on patrol, stop

and speak to him.
Crime Stoppers tel. 0800 555111 is another way of passing information, as is contacting your Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator.  The fact that the West Coker Police Beat has a sponsored Policeman does not mean that when PC Stamper is not on duty, there is no Police cover.  Should you need the Police, then they will respond, but for non-emergencies you will be asked if your reason for calling can wait until PC Stamper is next on duty.
An emergency is an incident that requires IMMEDIATE police response,
Where there is a DANGER to life or a RISK to injury
Where a crime IS in progress
Where an OFFENDER is STILL at the scene or has JUST left it.
If the above applies dial
999 straight away.
All police contact numbers are listed in the phone book.

As we prepare this first edition for 2001 we are still looking forward to Christmas and another New Year.  After all the excitement and hype over the millennium what did the year 2000 mean to our village?
Just a few days into the New Year we all remember the shock when we saw the fire damage to Skittles and who can forget the subsequent 'bubble pack' which became such a feature in the Square all through the year?   Flooding has affected properties in the village and the ongoing traffic and parking problems continue.  Both subjects are being considered by the County,  District and Parish Councils.
These are the downside items - there have been many other interesting events to report. The Village Design Day gave us a chance to look at and evaluate our village and this is an on-going project.  Garden Festival 2000 was a great success and we will long remember Rule Britannia in the rain - Summer Songtime at The Hall.
So many others, School and Church events plus individual achievements.  We look forward to hearing about ALL the events in the village and are grateful to those of you that regularly send us your reports.
We look forward to another interesting year.

June and Nigel.
