Reading the Written on the wings of a dove
by Jen

SYNOPSIS:
Seiji says goodbye to Touma, not knowing but regretting that it would be for the last time.

MAKO:
I got the privilege to beta read this fic, before Jen submitted it to Mink. Jen and I e-mail each other quite frequently, so when she asked me if I'd pre-read a fic for her, I jumped at the chance. Imagine my surprise when I saw this. I was expecting to laugh my ass off; Jen is a happy nut, one of the reasons Mish and I love her so much, but this was completely unexpected.

MISH:
If it was possible to measure surprise, the metre would have been broken with this fic. Jen, Minklands very own resident of Jen Jen land, the all around high-spirited Texan that photographs her socks...completely shocked me. This fic is nothing but angst. I have to wonder what was going through her head when she became, for once in her life, serious and wrote this short stab to Seijis soul.

In fact, the fic was so short that there was no way I could synopsise it without giving it away. To keep from further spoiling the fic, I couldnt take out any excerpts.

MAKO:
It was shorter when I first had a peek at it, if you can believe that! I suggested a small rewrite, and she ended up making the fic that much more intense... by adding ONE additional paragraph!

MISH:
On the other hand, the brevity of the fic is one of its greatest attributes. Sure, its short, but succinct. Jen gets to the point, throws in enough angsty emotion, and avoids bogging it down with excessive explanation. All we need to know is whats in the story, so Jen leaves it at that.

MAKO:
I think "Dove" has got to be one of the most poignant stories I've ever read. It had me in tears when I read the re-write, and I haven't come across something that could do that in a LONG time!

rating:
-------------
MISH:
7/10. I dont really enjoy reading angst during a lunch break, its not good for my morale. Thankfully, it was redeemingly short.

MAKO:
I gave this a 9 out of 10 when I first read it. Jen was one of the first to preview our site; I got to pre-read this shortly afterwards.
