December 11, 1998: WHEN TO EXERCISE

I started exercising daily when I quit smoking on January 9, 1996. 1,066 days ago.

I have tried to exercise every day since then-lots of days I have failed to do so.

As I think back to the many days when I have failed to exercise, one thing stands clear in my mind. I did not exercise first thing in the morning I tried to do it later. Often, I just got into other things and did not get around to it.

I am in touch with many others who also exercise regularily and the advice from all is to do your exercise first thing in the morning-it seems to be the best time for all.

If you have to get up an hour earlier to exercise, just go to bed an hour earlier. If exercise is your priority, build your life around it.

Another reason for this time of day being the best is that your stomach is empty; none of your oxygen is being used to process food. Thus, it is easier to exercise.
