Element of Surprise
As the blizzard rolled
across the lands.
On a wintry
Monday morning
back in 1963.
My watch hit
six o'clock
in the morning.
As I headed
out the door
to begin another
week of work
But the blizzard
of fog was so thick
That the steam
from my coffee
vanished in the mist.
Then I set
the cup
upon the car.
And as I
unlocked the door.
So I could
begin my journey
just one more time.
When I opened
the door
something fell
upon my feet.
For it was heavy
but who was it.
Since I could
not see.
I felt the face
of a fair skinned
young lady.
But my heart
began to race.
As I felt
the warm blood
run across my feet.
But my mouth
became so dry.
That I could not
even scream or cry.
And through the mist
came a man.
He made not
even a sound
to give me a chance.
As he ran
his knife
through my side.
So I lay down
to rest
As he took
my life
Then he drove
off in my car.
As he left the
land of the
lone star state.
Soon he stopped
to take some rest.
As I entered
in his dreams
that very night.
He died in his sleep
without a chance
to even fight.
Since he killed
me and my wife.
