Between Earth and Sky
Below the shadow-cast peak I stroll
Through lava rock and muddy soil
Above me soars the world.
Tiring, I stood hesitent at
A smooth grey stone worn flat
A chill, piercing wind flayed
My life-tired brain.
Far beneath lay
The towns.
All squared with walls and roofs
Cindered red and brown on black
Gray all around
Tan against brown.
Detached--my soul reached.
