THE ROMANS ARE BACK IN YORK

On Monday 16th October 2006, members of the VI Legion Victrix, based in the Roman Bath Museum, were invited to put a year 5 class of the Minster school in York, through a Roman marching course, including orders given in Latin. The Roman soldiers led by Centurion Graham Harris, arrived early in the morning to surprise the class and put them through their paces in the playground in front of the school. After learning the basic commands and greetings the children were then marched to the statue of the Emperor Constantine, which stands outside York Minster before being marched around the Minster and through the streets to the Roman Bath Museum, where they were told about the bathhouse and what went on inside during the Roman occupation of York over 1,700 years ago.
