On th 29th January 2002 Derek Acorah was visiting the Roman Bath Museum during the making of the television programme Ghost Towns. While he was recording this episode Derek encountered some of the Roman Bath Museum's oldest residents. During his visit, whilst standing at the corner of the Caldarium he felt a presence and saw a group of Roman soldiers. A short time after this he was apparently possessed by a spirit and was layed out to recover on the wall of the Frigidarium.

On a cold and overcast Saturday afternoon in February 2006, a British couple reported feeling a 'presence' by the Caldarium, they then took two pictures on a mobile phone, one of which includes a curious light anomaly under one of the flues. This picture is now known as the ghostly fire and is a popular post card in the museum
