The sheepfold consists of a stone wall forming an enclosure round a cave.
There is a gap in the wall in which the shepherd sits hunched up at night to keep the sheep in, and predators and thieves out. When Jesus said "I am the door" this is what he meant. Thorns and briars fastened on top of the wall prevented access by those that would try to get in another way. |
