History of the Arms:
In 1814, to be precisely on october 26th, the acting emperor, later also known asKing William 1st decided to build a police force called: "Corps de Marechauss�e"; he changed the name "Gendarmerie" and impressed therefore a personal touch on the just born policecorps. The main goal for this corps was to keep peace and order, to mainatin the laws and secure the obidance of laws and look after the security of the countries borders of the Kingdom and all main highways and roads.
Later, the Royal Marechaussee also took the task of the "klompenwacht" (cloque-guard) at the palais and became even worthier to the countrie in common and to the government in particular.
As a former mounted policeunit the Marechaussee was fast, it earned its respect by its acting en also  maintained untill this very day because of her remarks:
flexibility, speed in acting; loyalty and mondial working.
Always very well recognizable with the "nestel" (the cord); a sign that the Marechaussee used to be a mounted unit and still is.
And of course it's unit-call which is accurate untill today:
"Zonder Vrees Zonder Blaam"
