"What good can I do today?" - Benjamin Franklin

Who am I?

writer, teacher, educator, speaker, reader,  student of the world, advocate for literacy, INFJ

UPDATED : 11/7/05

A day of personal redefinition

For almost two weeks I've been sulking about the fact that "I've lost something."  Because I act mostly upon inspiration I become blue when I suddenly lose the move to continue.  When these times arrive, and I am again re-inspired, I returned to this website with updates as to where I have been and where I am going.  My last time of definition was in August, and before then, in May.  It seems to occur in 3 month periods.  Over the past three months I've claimed myself an entrepreneur, started several blogs on pocket PC, ebooks, and electronic text in my desire to create a business around handheld technology, considered many other types of businesses, and today, finally focused my education business purporting individual intellectual pursuits and have now claimed myself a teacher/mentor to fit my INFJ profile and desires.

Purpose of website

My goal with this website is personal virtual organization.  It seems easier to me to organize the many facets of my life virtually than physically.  This website is a way for me to communicate with the world and inspire others to reach their goals.

For long I've considered web logs to be rather worthless ramblings of individuals.  Reflecting on their uses, though, I've realized they allow us to accurately display ourselves as who are: multi-faceted beings.  We are not defined solely by our jobs, the high school or college we attended, or even friends that we keep.  Our roles of mother, daughter, son, architect, and friend all play parts in who we are.  A web log is a true place for us to express the complexities and wonders of ourselves.

The purpose of my blog is to show readers that the road to achieving one's goal is not always without is limitations and setbacks.  The road to one's personal success can become lonely and seemingly unimportant when we are not surrounded by what Barbara Sher calls "winners" in her book Wishcraft, a book on how to accurately find, plan, and achieve one's goals.  This blog, and I hope others, can help us would-be winners stay connected and motivated on our journeys to personal success.  I am currently inspired greatly by Sher's book, but also my hundreds of ambitions  in my youth.

My Roles

Educator - Lately my mindset has turned to teacher and educator being the same thing to them being two different things.  A teacher teaches his subject well, but an educator understands the individual student's goals in life and helps them meet them through education.

Writer - I've been a writer since I was a child.  That's one reason I decided to launch this website along with my blog.  I've written several unfinished stories and novels, but my project now is a book on what I believe constitutes as a complete education.  My focus is nonfiction - for now.

Entrepreneur - After having read Jennifer Kushell's The Young Entrepreneur's Edge as a teenager, I became by her journey to business success.  It was not only her success solely that which led me to pursing a career as en entrepreneur, but my internal yearnings for independence, and self-starting which has manifested itself throughout most of my life.  Only this year have I proclaimed myself an entrepreneur and am on a journey to become a successful business owner.

My Inspiration

Benjamin Franklin - Having had many interests in the past I've always been thought as as strange character.  Reading Benjamin Franklin: An American Life by Walter Isaacson has allowed me to believe that I can have many interests and pursue them all.  Franklin is a scholar of the English language.  I wish to some day be as well-written and well-read as he is.  Benjamin Franklin is an inspiration because he has done so many things in his life .  In today's society Jack-of-all-trades are thought as those who cannot get down to work.   I think that's a misconception we must overcome.

Personal Mission Statement

  1. Stay true to myself

  2. Maintain my ideals

  3. Change the world

My Philosophy (12/22/05)

ENLIGHTENMENT: Learn from the basic forms of knowledge (science, logic, philosophy, literature, math, English, etc).

ACTION: Create a goal around what interests you most from those areas of knowledge.  Do something with what you know.

VIRTUE: Be good to others.  As Benjamin Franklin asked every morning "What good shall I do today?", do similarly because from others do we reap the benefits of our labors.

Currently, I am studying to obtain my CPA and creating a nonprofit to help my community create a better educated society.
