Cities & City Districts
As in Rise of Nations, cities serve as the central pillars of players' dominions. Cities are persistent, upgradeable, capturable, and push national borders. You can add four types of districts to a city core:- Military: increase national population cap, provide free units, strengthen city defenses
- Merchant: allows building of additional caravan for trade, increases commerce cap (total amount of resources you're allowed to collect per minute)
- Nation-Unique District: Vinci have Industrial districts - grant trips to the Vinci Prototype Factory for Vinci-unique bonuses - and the Alin have Magus districts - grant research points
- Palace: with each three other districts built, a player may add a Palace district to that city; additional Palaces raise the status of cities from small through large to great
Other Features
- Four-lane research track as in Rise of Nations, but each nation has some unique technologies
- Vinci Research Labs upgradeable into new types of buildings that confer special benefits
- Neutral Sites & Cities: neutral sites and cities on each map can serve as trade partners and may be absorbed into your nation peacefully through trade, by direct purchase, or by conquest; most neutrals have some special power; once assimilated, these sites and cities also border-push for you
- Foot Soldier Storming of Cities & Sites: Although you can reduce a capturable site to zero strength through bombardment and other means, each besieged city specifies a number of foot soldiers which, when near the site, will trigger a "storm" option - a button lights up, which, when pressed, sends in the storming foot soldiers and the city is immediately reduced to zero health. As in Rise of Nations, a captured city or site requires an assimilation period before full integration into a player's nation.
- Two Resources Only: Timonium - a mineral found in non-depleting patches on the map - and Wealth - gathered by Caravans running trade routes among friendly and neutral cities and sites; there are Miners (and Vinci Clockwork Miners) but no Civilians
- Four Attainable Dominances:
- Military: granted to the first player to gain a certain number of foot soldier units; allows bribing enemy foot soldiers
- Political: granted to the first player to gain a certain number of neutral sites; allows summoning of map-specific allies for a brief time
- Resource: granted to the first player to accumulate a certain number of total resources; allows special healing of friendly units
- Tactical: granted to the first player to destroy a certain number of enemy Mines, Miners, and Caravans; allows calling a mandatory ceasefire temporarily ending all combat
- Heroes: each race has or gets access to several Heroes - each with his/her own character; special units with powerful abilities
- Nation-Unique Features: each of the game's three races has different research, infrastructure, and military upgrade paths
