Above:  Lake Mead located in Riverside County.  Believe it or not, this beautiful picture is of a man-made lake!

Below:  Another magnificent man-made creation is Salton Sea.  It is one of the largest lakes in CA and is actually salty (hence the name).  In generations past, Salton Sea was touted and developed into a tourist trap for people seeking relief from the desert heat.  Hotels, resorts, and communities were built around the huge Lake, only to be abandoned decades later when the water becomes extremely salty and unbearabley smelly during the summer months!  Still, hearty inhabitants still live in the area today.  However, the resorts and hotels remain abandoned and uninhabitable.
Below:  A view point along a twisty road leading down into the Anza-Borrego Desert.  Only barely visible is the community of Borrego Springs to the left of the picture.  The roads that lead into and out of this area are smooth and twisty as they descend down from the mountains that divide the Coastal plains from the desert.  These roads are also among the favorites of sportbikers looking to test their skills, their bikes, and also to have a great time riding their motorcycles.  When all the mountain passes are snowed in during the winter, this area of south-eastern San Diego provides a great playground for riders.  It has also caught the attention of the CHP who now frequent the area, sometimes setting up speed and passing traps on the sections of road they know sportbikers will ride and break traffic laws!  Instead of spending their time in heavily populated areas, the CHP chooses to spend their precious time busting sportbikers on wide open, often empty roads in the desert!
