California Central Coast Tour - 2007
There are many neat and interesting places people often go to and see.  They spend some time there, enjoy the place, then they go home and never go back.  Once they've seen it, that's it.  However, there are places some of us keep in this special place in our hearts that we return to year after year.  Sometimes, at every oppotunity that we get.  It's hard to explain why as the reasons for such places are different for many.  These destinations stay with us in our dreams.  They call out to us to return.  Whenever we encounter those dreadful days at work or just a longing to get away from our daily routine, it is these destinations that immediately come to mind to sooth us and take us away.  At least for a moment, we can keep going back and experience those feelings of happiness, freedom, and pleasure that these places bring to our souls.  For me, and perhaps for many others, this special place is the Central Coast of California.  Nowhere else do I feel so incredibly free.  Of course there is also the visual beauty of the unspoiled coastline of California.  But for me, there is also the empty roads of varying types in varying terrain that beckons me to bring my powerful motorcycle and experience what it is like to completely free of most constraints that I often have to contend with back home.  Nowhere else do I know of where I can explore the maximum acceleration, cornering clearance, and flat out WOT for miles and miles without fear of the law putting a stop to my shenannigans!  Thus, when Bluepoof, an esteemed member of Sport-Touring.net and an experienced motorcycle traveller, put an invitation out to play in the Central Coast of CA, I was the first to step up and volunteer.

As always, the ride for me began in South Orange County.  I took a half day off from work so that me and another ST.net member, Asphalt_Carver, could get an early start in escaping the dreadfull SoCal rush hour traffic.  This was to be AS' first long distance, multi-day tour on a motorcycle.  He brought along his almost new Buell Lightning XB12Ss.  For me, this was my first tour on my not so new Buell XB12R Firebolt.

Below:  Asphalt_Carver arrives at my garage exactly at 12:15PM.  Notice the smile that stretched from ear to ear!  He had no idea what he was about to embark on:  a road trip with the Rogue_Biker!  MUHAHAHAHA!!!
Below:  My Firebolt loaded up and ready to rock and roll.  I have to admit, I didn't know what this bike had in store for myself riding such a sportbike on a long trip.  I thought I was getting too old with the ass-high riding position, which is why I purchased my VFR800.  Yet, here I go again! I fitted my Firebolt with a Zero Gravity ST screen to ease some of the windblast at highway speed.  Amazingly enough, my trusty Tourmaster Cortech Duffle bag, which has endured several trips on my previous other bikes, fit the Firebolt beautifully without cramping my already big ass!  The Cortech Super-Mini Tank Bag was very small but it did the job of carrying the little knick-knacks necessary on motorcycle trips.  I wish I had more room but that was all that fit.
