SHOULD I BELIEVE IN GOD?
Throughout human history, there has been a strong necessity for man to believe in a supernatural power, a "specie" that is higher than his, both in intelligence and in other human characteristics. This has created the belief in a deity called God in some culture. Personnaly, I think that there should be no obligation for any human being to have such a belief, but civilizations have not understood it. Psychoanalysis has explained much of human behavior and has discarded the belief that man behavior is dictated by either God or the evil. The theory of the evolution has eliminated the hands of God in the birth of mankind. Now the theory of relativity, that of the black hole and the recent notion of imaginary time (like the imaginary numbers) have crushed the remaining hope that man has had in the Creation(� Geologie & Cosmologie, Tome III: Les Grands Ensembles). But man still needs to believe in God. God is part of his culture and nourrishes his hopes. AM I A CHRISTIAN?
Anybody can claim to be a Christian if he follows the lesson of Christ, as it is related in the Christian bible, without being a follower of any of the Christian churches. Those are here, on earth, to ease the task to the followers of Christ . But can Christ be bought? Many people think that, by simply going regularly to the church and by putting their money in the basket during the service's collection, they are the true Christians. However, this notion of "Godfather " of the Church is wrong. As for me, I will not claim that I am "more Catholic than the pope" as my Christian educators have, with joke, characterized my scrupulous mind; that would have been a groundless presomptuous pretension of mine, but should I lie to please others?? While computers are robbibg jobs to humans like the machines did at the beginning of the industrial world. It will then become more and more difficult for people to be hired for valuable work. Our society will then be tuned to leisure in such a profound way as it has never happened before, and hedonism (withouth its utilitarianist adaptation) is just around the corner. On the other hand, whether or not we need to fight poverty in the City could not be a debate (since, certainly, it should be fought), but if the Yankees and the Mets abandon New York City, it will surely loose also money. This combined situation may compromise its welfare. It is why I am begging the religious leaders of the City to be comprehensive on this matter.
HOW DOES SCIENCE DIFFER FROM RELIGION?
Science relies on relative truths while religion relies on relative myths. Both those myths and those truths are important to mankind and have contributed to its progress. I say relative because that thruth can be modified by new discoveries and
because it can change with the frame of reference. I say relative because each human group has also its own myths. The myth of The Creation, for example, does not exist in all human groups, and whenever it is there, it harbors a variety of disguise. Inside the myths of a group are frozen the social values of the group. As for me, I do not believe that there is any god and while I consider Christ as my "model", I do not consider him as god. (I consider equally Toussaint Louverture and Martin Luther King as good models for any black man.) While I am ready to follow the Christ's lessons (� The Church, its Psycho-Social Aspects in today Society), I deny that he has resurrected from the deads. The Age of Science?
Yesterday, I was browsing a book at a Barnes & Noble bookstore. This book is the Age of Science, from Gerard Piel. What kept my attention is this sentence, nearing some kind of culturocentrism: "When historians came to examine western civilization in the twentieth century, one area of intellectual accomplishment will stand out of others: more than any other era before it, the twentieth century was an age of science." I do agree with the author, but I have three things to say. It is only fortuitous that so many discoveries were done in the western civilization. This later progress of mankind has not either been a benefit to most inhabitants of this planet, since it has been concommitant with the ruin of its ecology and the disappearance of most of its species, the unwanted side-effects of humanity social progress. Finally, at the end, it might well be senseless unless man uses it to escape his destiny as it is written in the solar system. (This is my "dialectic", and it will stay so.)

CAPITALISME CLOCHARD VS DICTATURE DU PROL�TARIAT

socialisme? Aucun système social humain n'est parfait,
je le répète. Comme sytème économique, le capitalisme est dynamique du fait de
la compétitivité qu'il engendre et serait préférable au socialisme qui, du
point de vue économique, est lourd et incompétitif, pouvant conduire à la
misère sociale et la révolution. Du point de vue social, le capitalisme peut
se monter beaucoup moins humain et beaucoup plus primitif que le socialisme
et, laissé sans contrôle, peut aboutir au chaos social. Le capitalisme ne doit
pas être confondu avec la démocracie bien qu'il préconise le marché libre, et
le socialisme est parfaitement compatible également avec celle-ci. Tout leader
doit se montrer ecclectique et pliable, s'adaptant aux diverses situations du
moment ou de son temps.
ABOUT TERRORISM
In a manuscript, The Unconscious Motives of the Politico-Social Anarchy in Haiti, I have studied a little bit the problem of the terrorism, and I want to acknowledge you my opinion about it, in the wake of the recent controverse between the Secretary of State, General Colin Powell, and the Secreatry of Defense. There are two kinds of
terrorists.
There are these terrorists like have been the French patriots, the Vietcong terrorists, or like those of the Irish Republican Army, in Great Britain, ETA, in Spain, the Columbian Liberation Army, or, again, the Palestinian Liberation Front, on one side. The first group falls in the category of those terrorsits fighting to liberate their country or, in any case, their mother land
against invaders or hated inoccupants.
There is another kind of terrorists. Those are the international terrorists who fight for an international cause
that can be, for example, a faith or an ideology. Those who belong to the first group confined their acts to their country while those who belong to the second group overpass the boundaries between nations.
As long also as we are not in war with their countries, these terrorists cannot be treated like prisonners of war (and some might even be doing it for money). The difficulty stands in identifying who are the true international terrorists and who are Taliban fighters. Since arms of mass destruction can fell into their hands and since many of them will not hesitate to destroy a "land" that is not theirs, the international terrorists should be taken very seriously.
Finally, General Colin Powell is a man I owe great respect and I think that he is a man that the nation can trust unlike the corrupted and malicious politician. However, like any other man, he is faillible and can be misled. (Posted on this January/28/2002.)
ON FAMILY VALUES
Family values are those social values that call for the unity of the nuclear family (� Les M�moires du Dr. Roger Qualo) composed of the husband(s), the wife(s), their children and their incubent responsibilities. Family values differ among the human societies and among their major artefacts--the religions. In a Christian society, the nuclear family is composed of one husband, one wife and their children--the essential monogamy. In some parts of Africa and India*, the people practice some kind of polygamy (plural marriage) which is a mating pattern in which a single individual mates with more than one individual of the opposite sex (� American Heritage Dictionary); it is the "double marriage." Among the muslims, male polygamy is admitted and the husband can have many wives. As long as the parents (the father(s) and the mother(s)) care for their children and their spouses - a difficult task when there are many partners - family values are respected. Prostitution and the neurosis called Don Juanism, a lower kind of mania, (where one partner, ordinary the man, runs many women withouth caring of his offsprings) are lack of respect to family values. HOW IS RELIGION IMPORTANT TO OUR LIFE
After the scientific knowledge, and, in some instances, even
before it, religion is the most important thing in our social
life. Sport and artistic leasures come only in third and fourth
places. The belief in god(s) is only one feature of religion,
although it is an important one. It is of no necessity to
religions and has come into existence mainly because of the lack
of scientific knowledge, at the beginning of humanity. It has
served also the purpose of domination, but this has been only
fortuitous. Man can live withouth god(s), but will he be able to
live withouth religion? I doubt it. Religion has played an
important role in the history of mankind and in the building of
civilization and is still very useful to our culture

ON RACIAL PREJUDICE
Today a New York news' media
announces that it has a new report saying that the latest stats (statistics)
reveal that, in general, blacks and Hispanics perform less well at school than
whites and Asians, but that some schools (a few of them) report exceptions.
For me, the newsmedia did not understand well the signification of this
statistics, because it invalidates the use of the notion of race in
comparing students. (They should have added this comment). Indeed, blacks
and hispanics perfom less well as long as they come, in majority, from a poor
and deprived social or (more) socio-economic environment. In a poor
socio-economic environment, the students may lack the daily amount of calories
to perform well, they may lack the intellectual incentives to do so, they may
lack the required discipline and so on. So, why not avoiding the notion of
race to look for the true causes of this discrepancy; it is, after all, the

THE SWEDISH EXPERIENCE
No race is superior to the other. In accord with the theory
of the evolution the superiority of one race over the other
cannot be. The huge and late progress of the civilizations
of the Northern hemisphere may be only a random event or partly
explicable by the development of the development of the
Mediterranean bassin, where the climate was mild and the
environment propitious for human progress.
Being a white man is certainly an advantage in an Artic
and cold climate: the sweating glands are less developed among
the whites, the nostrils have a smaller front opening, etc.
all things that limit the loss of heat. Being a black man is
an advantage in tropical climate where the sun rays hit more
directly the environment. Are the Swedish women right about
their choice and their policy of changing the genetic make up
of the Swedish people. The world has made a huge progress and
man has become less dependent on the environment so that the
process of adaptation has become less important in the selection
of the environment. Nevertheless, a population with a larger genes'
pool has still a "natural, selective and adaptative" advantage
over another one with a smalller gene pool, whether it is human
or not.
A POLITICAL ANACHRONISM: FREE MARKET VS DEMOCRACY
Is "free market" more important than "individual liberties?" While North Vietnam has accepetd the establishment of a free market type of economy in the south part of Vietnam and has declared that socialism is a failed economic system, no free elections have been held in Vietnam since the departure of the last American troops from this country and the people of this country have not been able to choose freely their rulers. It is really a pity how some people distort the truth about themselves.
RATIONALISM vs EMPIRISM
In the Online American Heritage Dictionary, Rationalism is defined as this school of philosophy that stresses that "the exercise of reason, rather than the acceptance of empiricism, authority, or spiritual revelation, provides the only valid basis for action or belief and that reason is the prime source of knowledge and of spiritual truth" and that "reliance on reason is the best guide for belief and action." In the same dictionary, Empiricism is defined as this opposite school that stresses that "experience, especially of the senses, is the only source of knowledge" and as "the practice of medicine that disregards scientific theory and relies solely on practical experience". While this, once raged debate, has faded away those days, there are still some people who lean towards one or the other of these schools. Today, the rationalist points to wide extrapolation and generalisation steming from practical experience, while the empiricist points to the particular side of nature and to the fractal aspect of knowledge. Depending on what science you practice, you may pay more or less attention to one or the other of these philosophical concepts and devote more or less of your time to your theory or to your experiments.
LE LIBERTINAGE: Comment le définir en relation avec les valeurs morales d'une société? À PROPOS DES VALEURS ÉTHIQUES
Normalement, les valeurs morales sont établies par les dirigeants d'une société pour son bon fonctionnement, i.e., par les membres les plus hauts placés dans cette société. Les valeurs qui s'écartent des valeurs ainsi établies sont qualifiées d'extrêmes et ceux qui les professent sont qualifiées d'extrémistes, de révolutionnaires ou d'anarchistes Les valeurs morales ne sont pas les mêmes pour les différentes sociétés humaines et, dans certains cas, elles peuvent différer énormément. Il est désormais temps que l'Église catholique change sa politique en ce qui concerne la durée de la papauté. Le pape est un humain comme tous les autres. Il doit lui être permis d'avoir une retraite honorable lorsqu'avec la vieillesse ou/et la maladie ses forces auront failli et qu'il lui soit devenu impossible de superviser les destinées de son Église. La médecine a accompli des progrès formidables, ces derniers temps, et les hommes peuvent, maintenant, vivre plus longtemps que dans le passé, mais le nombre d'invalidités dues au viel âge augmente, aussi, parallèlelement.
