During the 1700's, persons with the last name of Kuder emigrated from Germany to make a new life in America. The first Kuder to come to America was Hans Peter Kuder, who was born in Neckargartach, Germany (in the province of Wurttemberg) and died about 1758 in Bucks County, Pa. He married Catherine Dorothy Rossler. He left Germany at age 22. He arrived at Philadelphia on October 8, 1737, in the ship Charming Nancy.
How many children Hans Peter had is unknown. Large families were common in those days. It is know that Hans Peter had 3 daughters, Anna Marie, Maria Elizabeth and Maria Margaret. One of Hans Peter's sons was John Kuder, who was killed in the battle of Germantown, in 1777. The Lehigh County, PA Kuders were descended from John. Many Kuders now living in the United States were descended through this line. Another of Hans Peter's sons was Captain Valentine Kuder, who was granted by the legislature 400 acres of land in Bucks County in remuneration for his services in the Revolutionary War. A great grandson of his was Laurence Sherman Kuter who rose to the rank of a 4 star general then retired to help develop the 747 aircraft.
A brother of Hans Peter was Bernhard Kuder,
who also immigrated to America. Many
other Kuder’s in America are descended from him. One of these descendants was John McLoud Kuder, who
established Kuder Citrus Pulp Company in Lake Alfred Florida. Another was John Kuder, after whom was named a Kuder Hill
Road in New York State. Another was
Alburtus Kuder after whom was named Kuder Avenue in Akron, Ohio. Another was Rev
Calvin Kuder who wrote a book about his missionary work.
Elias Kuder, Sr. was a son of Hans Peter
Kuder. He was born 1754 in Bucks County, PA and died 1854 in Circleville, Ohio.
He married Catherine Spinner (daughter of Jacob Spinner and Catherine
Stout) in Bucks County, PA and had 7 sons and a daughter. These were John,
Jonathan, Elias, Peter, Daniel, George, Solomon and Susan.
One of John’s sons was Lewis Kuder who supervised the construction of a
bridge in Illinois still known today as Kuder Bridge.
One of Solomon’s great grandson’s was George Frederic Kuder who
devised the Kuder Preference Record, a widely used psychological test. Another
of Solomon’s great grandson’s was Clarence Winfield Kuder to whom were born:
Robert Clarence Kuder, who wrote the Kuder
genealogy book; and
Roger Leon Kuder who worked as an electrical
technician on the wiring of Disney World and
also had a church building in central Florida, the Kuder building, named after
him.
One descendant of Elias was John David Kuder,
who was reported as “washed overboard” aboard a Navy ship off Norfolk in
1973. His body was never found and
foul play and a cover up were suspected.
John Kuder (son of Hans Peter Kuder) married
Elizabeth Kuntz, and had the following children: Joseph, Solomon (b 6-5-1086 in
Trexeltown), and John Jr.
Solomon Kuder (son of Elias Kuder and Catherine Spinner) was born 9-4-1790 in Cataawissa, PA and died 8-15-1873 in Washington Township, Wood County, Ohio. Finance. He is also the Director of the Sloan Program in Health Services
Administration at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and was the Director
of the Center for Applied Research at Henry Ford Health Care System in Detroit.
Dr. Kuder's research background focuses primarily on the financing of health
care, decision making regarding the use of services, and more recently on the
impact of managed care systems on Medicaid populations. Dr. Kuder’s teaching
and studies are on the organization, financing and economics of health services
and health insurance from a systems perspective. His work focuses primarily on
how public policy shapes the organization and financing of services and how
decisions, by consumers and health service providers, are then influenced by
these changes. In addition to the use of services, his work concerns issues
regarding consumer and physician satisfaction, efficiency, cost, and equity. His
is primarily interested in the influence that policy has on vulnerable
populations including rural populations, children, the elderly, the poor and the
chronically ill. Currently, the majority of his research work in on Managed Care
and specifically public managed care programs (Medicaid and Medicare). Kuder,

points to limited availability, cost and restricted coverage of that cost under
Medicare as factors to consider.
